Axed: The Time Traveler’s Wife

Romance with Rose Leslie and Theo James ends with one season.

New HBO drama The Time Traveler’s Wife has been axed after just a single season.

The series by Steven Moffat, based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel, centres around a romance between a woman (Rose Leslie) and a man unstuck in time (Theo James). On Rotten Tomatoes the series drew a 38% rating from critics.

“Though HBO will not be moving forward with a second season of The Time Traveler’s Wife, it was our privilege to partner with master storytellers Steven Moffat and [director] David Nutter,” HBO said in a statement. “We are so grateful for their passion, hard work and care for adapting this beloved book. We also thank Theo and Rose, and the rest of our brilliant cast for their heartfelt performances, which completely captivated audiences.”

It screened in Australia on Foxtel and Binge.

  1. It has a 38% score from critics and 85% rating from viewers on the site. It’s a book critics want to burned, not adapted for TV. Myers of the SJ Mercury predicted this with “critics won’t be able to stomach any of it, but the rest of us will gladly embrace the feels and tears.” Though I didn’t expect it to get a second season because Moffat clearly didn’t bother to leave anything for it, except a small bit about their son, which is better left out anyway.
