Red Faces specials “soon”

"We had so much fun putting these together," Daryl Somers says of two upcoming specials to screen on Seven.

Two Hey Hey it’s Saturday specials devoted to Red Faces are set to screen on Seven.

Daryl Somers has told fans on Facebook, “We had so much fun putting these together and have included many favourites you’ve requested like The Amazing Nigel and Harry (we can now finally reveal what happened to their magic dove that flew into the lighting grid … you won’t be disappointed).

“It’s extraordinary the lengths people would go to just to be on the show. Age was no barrier, nor lack of talent, the more bizarre the better: Can you drink a can of coke without using your mouth? How many tunes can you play on your oven? You may have had an egg roll but have you ever tried a Humpty Dumpty rap? How much fun can you get out of six dissected animals?”

One lingering question is whether Red Symons will make an appearance, having not featured in either of the two recent specials.

Seven is expected to announce dates immently, ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

  1. Harry Connick Jr. really made an impact all those years ago on Red Faces by appropriating and importing American culture into the Red Faces appearance.

In Netherlands, they still celebrate Zwart Piet (Black Peter), and it’s immune from foreign interference, and still broadcast on the main channels there. Though it would be very alien and inappropriate for American audiences.

Red Faces seems as though it will always be tarnished by the blackface controversy with Harry Connick Jr.
