Renewed: The Wheel of Time

The Shadow Rising to become third season of sprawling fantasy saga.

Prime Video has announced a third season of fantasy series The Wheel of Time, based on Robert Jordan’s series of best-selling novels.

The renewal was announced to fans at a Wheel of Time: Origins panel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, along with a Season Two behind-the-scenes sizzle reel.

“I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time,” said Rafe Judkins, executive producer and showrunner. “The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honor, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago.”

“We are so excited to dive deeper into the world of The Wheel of Time with Rafe Judkins and his team, who have done such a marvelous job of honoring Robert Jordan’s vision and delivering an incredible viewing experience to Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios. “Season One resonated with the most loyal of Jordan devotees, as well as the uninitiated, who were experiencing this incredible world for the first time, proving this is a show that truly stands out in the genre space. We couldn’t be happier to give fans more reasons to be excited about the show and bring more The Wheel of Time to our customers worldwide.”

“Initially, people around the globe fell in love with Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time books and now thanks to Rafe Judkins and his incredible team that epic world has vividly been brought to life on Prime Video,” said Jeff Frost, president, Sony Pictures Television and Jason Clodfelter, co-president, Sony Pictures Television. “We are so pleased to be able to continue the journey and deliver this remarkable story to fans around the world. Sony Pictures Television is proud to continue its partnership with Amazon Studios as we move toward Season Three.”

The series stars Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Aussie Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski and Marcus Rutherford.

  1. Wheel Of Time is easily as watchable for males as The Witcher series, great action with plenty of gore and above all else an excellent storyline, our household loved it.

  2. According to what I read Wheel of Time’s viewer numbers steadily went down after the November 21st release of the first three episodes which had 19.38 million views, placing it second on Nielsen’s streaming chart, the shows second week saw it decline to sixth (8.5 million views), the least most viewed show in Netflix’s Top 10 during that week was ‘Selling Sunset’: Season 4, which had 11.1 million hours viewed. Amazon Studios Chief Jennifer Salke told Deadline,”We firmly say that Wheel of Time was the most watched series premier of the year and one of the Top 5 series launches of all time for Prime Video”. she added,’ ”It’s definitely trending to exceed our expectations which were high”, she also noted. The show averaged 7.98 million views per episode, as a comparison the network cable show NCIS on CBS gets an average 7.591 million viewers. Interestingly, more females liked the show than males. All eyes will be on Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and not just…
