Italian crime drama Don’t Leave Me and Season 2 of Spanish sci-fi series Paraiso both drop today at SBS on Demand.

Thursday, 14 July.

Paraiso (Season Two)
All eight episodes available to stream. In Spanish with English subtitles.
Three years have passed since the events of the first season and another group of Undead, the Novavis, appears to have deployed to Almanzora de la Vega. Olivia, taking over from her grandmother as a medium, manages to bring Javi, Álvaro (Pau Gimeno), Zeta (Héctor Gozalbo) and Quino (León Martínez) back to face this new threat. The Novavis are now much more ruthless and bloodthirsty, and they will not hesitate to take down anyone who interferes in their plans. Javi and his crew must face new and greater dangers, including a secret that will shake the foundations of everything Javi believes in. Full of nineties nostalgia and mystery, Paraiso has been likened to a Spanish Stranger Things, the supernatural thriller series centered around a group of savvy misfit friends.

Don’t Leave Me
All eight episodes available to stream. In Italian with English subtitles.
Deputy Chief Elena Zonin (Vittoria Puccini) lives and works in Rome, where she deals with computer crimes and hunts down a network of paedophiles responsible for the kidnapping and sale of minors on the web. When the lifeless body of a child is found in the Venice lagoon, Elena immediately investigates the case, convinced that it can be traced back to the wider investigation she has been working on for years. For her, going to Venice also means going home, because that’s where she mysteriously left 20 years earlier. Here she finds Daniele (Alessandro Roia), her great love of the time, now a policeman like her, and Giulia (Sarah Felberbaum), Daniele’s wife, who was once her best friend. The same strong and warm bond of the past is reconstructed step by step between the three, but with the melancholy of the past, of lost opportunities and unspeakable secrets concerning those twenty years that Elena spent away from them. Elena finds herself caught between the memories and places of her youth, just as the investigation leads the police to uncover a complex and articulated case. A case that will end up involving influential and unsuspected enemies, placing Elena and Daniele in the eye of the storm of an unprecedented mission and which will endanger their own lives.

One Response

  1. Paraiso season one was interesting at the start but then began exploring tangents which had little to do with the existential dilemma facing the supernatural characters regarding extraterrestrials. The series probably should have concluded with the final scene but I guess as is the way nowadays the shows producers couldn’t resist a continuance even though most of the sci-fi tropes used in the screenplay had been fully exploited in season one.
