Airdate: Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance

South Australian-made YA series centres around an American teen gymnast invited to an Australian academy.

Locally produced YA series Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance premieres next month on Netflix.

Set in the world of teenage competitive gymnastics, the series is a TV spin-off from feature films A Second Chance (2011) and A Second Chance: Rivals! (2019), produced by Clay Glen.

The series centres around 14-year old Kyra Berry (Jada Lee Henry), an American gymnast who injures her knee but is invited by ex-world champion Australian gymnast Maddy Cornell (Emily Morris), now a coach, to join Australia’s Elite Gymnastics Program. It’s a second chance but also her last.

The young cast also includes Stella Shute and Eva Grados with Zoe Burns, Luciana Valdez Tirado, Ava Maios, and Jett Gazley plus adult performers Alexander Lloyd, Melanie Munt, Trung Le, Justina Ward and Michelle Nightingale.

The 10-episode series is the first Netflix commissioned series in South Australia, outside of co-productions such as Pine Gap.

Friday September 16 on Netflix.
