US sci-fi series Moonhaven was recently renewed for a second season.

Moonhaven centres on Bella Sway (Emma McDonald), a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler 100 years in the future who finds herself accused of a crime and marooned on Moonhaven, a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon to find solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth. A skeptic in Paradise, Bella is sucked into a conspiracy to gain control of the artificial intelligence responsible for Moonhaven’s miracles and teams with a local detective to stop the forces that want to destroy Earth’s last hope before they are destroyed themselves.

The series also stars Dominic Monaghan (Lost), Amara Karan (Doctor Who), Ayelet Zurer (Losing Alice), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Kadeem Hardison (Black Monday) and Yazzmin Newell (The Last Tree).

Moonhaven screens in Australia on AMC+.

I trialed this show out of curiosity as I liked the creative idea of terraforming part of the moon with a habitable environment and atmosphere, this concept was also explored in Space 1999 in one episode, if I remember correctly. A mystery that is making the Moon’s indigenous inhabitants highly protective is a drawcard part of this show, at least in the first episodes. Apart from Dominic Monaghan who is head and shoulders better than most of the other cast the story tends to ebb and flow as it goes along which is not unusual for this type of sci-fi genre, it also looks set up for producing further seasons.
