The Amazing Race Australia 2022: meet the cast

There are siblings, parents, best friends, LGBTQI+, Indigenous, Asian, Middle Eastern heritage and Disabled racers in the upcoming season of The Amazing Race Australia.

Hitting up six separate continents, a whopping 20 teams of two will travel across Australia, Africa, Europe, Asia, South America and North America in a race that will see the winner claim the biggest prize in the show’s history.

Not only will they score $250,000, but they’ll also drive away in not one, but two brand new cars.

Beau Ryan returns to host as the series embarks on a global race, post-Covid on 10.

Angel & Frankie

Angel and Frankie met attending church and formed a firm friendship focused on faith. While neither have travelled overseas together, they are confident they’re going to nail any obstacle that stands in their way. A former flight attendant, Angel will use her travel smarts to get them where they need to go, and Frankie has a cast iron stomach and will smash all the weird and wonderful food challenges. With their faith on their side, failure is not an option. Not in it solely for the money, they believe they were born for this.

What are you looking forward to the most on The Amazing Race Australia?
I’m honestly just looking forward to the adventure, the experience, and to be able to see more of the world. Travelling is my passion and Covid kind of ruined that for me for a while. So I’m so glad to be able to get out and explore more.
What’s the best place both in Australia and in the world you have visited and why?
I’m going to be biased here and say the best place in Australia is Brisbane! It’s such a beautiful city.
No matter where I go in the world, I always end up back in Brissie. I’ve been blessed and fortunate enough to see so much of the world. I’ve actually lost count of how many countries I’ve travelled to. I would probably pick Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Egypt then maybe Mexico.

What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
Win The Race, but also prove why I want to be on The Race, as so many people are backing us and I really want to make them all proud. I want to show that Angel and I are a great team. But I hope to accomplish something that I lack and that’s to be a better communicator. I hope to come out of this being open, and able to communicate better than I have.
What is the biggest challenge or weakness you’ll need to overcome?
Fear of spiders and snakes, and potentially some eating challenges as I am sometimes a picky eater.

Bren & Anja

Bren and Anja met at an animal rights activist event seven years ago, doing what they both enjoy the most -to stand up and be the voice of the voiceless.
Hugely compassionate, they’re in The Race to prove you don’t need to be fit, young and glam to put yourself
out of your comfort zone and give it a go.
In a race that’s proved to be a challenge for vegans in the past, the pair are willing to give anything a go,
so long as they’re not side-tracked by helping animals they come across along the way!

Why do you want to be on The Amazing Race Australia?
To show viewers that no matter what your age, if you have a dream, go for it. To show viewers that vegans are just normal people who don’t eat or use animal products or ingredients. Anyone can be vegan. For the animals, for the environment, for our health.
What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
To see as many countries as possible. To experience things I’ve never done before. To meet people of
different cultures. To overcome fears and phobias. To show viewers that you don’t have to be young
and fit to do well on The Amazing Race Australia.

What would you do with the prize money?
I would put some in our mortgage, give some to my grown-up kids to cover some university fees, will give some to friends but mainly to donate to animal sanctuaries and our local greyhound adoption organisation.
What’s the best and worst part of travelling with your teammate?
The best part is Bren, she is good fun and easy going. The worst part may be the snoring but it’s not a big deal, I’ve got ear plugs.

Chelsea & Jamus

Engaged with two little ones, Chelsea and Jamus are in The Race to win and help them buy their family dream home. Describing their relationship as “I’m the spice and he’s the sweetener!”, Chelsea and Jamus will need to work together in a big way. Chelsea’s slight OCD tendencies and Jamus’ laidback teddy bear approach to problems will either help or hinder their experience in The Race.

Why do you want to be on The Amazing Race Australia?
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. What a way to travel huh? Not many can say they have travelled by way of being a part of The Amazing Race Australia. I also want to challenge myself by putting myself in situations that I know I wouldn’t experience, most likely ever, if it wasn’t for getting into The Race.
What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
I honestly hope to come home more chill! I want to be able to relax in situations I wouldn’t normally.
I want to let Jamus take control of situations, rather than me feeling the need to always be in control.

Besties for over 14 years, Crystal and Reem are super modern women living in very traditional worlds. While Crystal has a strong Christian faith, Reem is a proud Muslim woman, and both are fluent in Arabic, something they’re hoping will give them an advantage on The Race. Racing around the world to prove they have what it takes to push themselves to their limits, Crystal will be the backbone of the team, pushing Reem along to get the job done. Determined not to let their bickering sideline their progress, they’re in it to score a house deposit

I was brought up in a tight-knit Lebanese-Australian Muslim family. My family is the greatest blessing in life. Growing up I struggled at times with my identity, but now I know who I am and every day I choose to go beyond labels and just be authentically me!

Flick and Gabby are out to prove sisters do it for themselves. Not only do they work side-by-side at their café every day, they’re in The Race to win and will do anything to make it happen.
In true sisterly fashion, expect a lot of fights and disagreements, but at the end of the day they know
they’ll always make up no matter what. Super fit from training daily, they’ll push themselves to their physical and emotional limits and vow to be the most competitive team The Race has ever seen.

Friends since birth, Fliss and Tottie’s country upbringing give them many advantages other teams may not have. Bringing their practical skills on The Race can only be an advantage and Tottie’s farmhand skills mean she can fix just about anything. The one thing that might work against them is they’re not used to the hustle and bustle of big cities. On The Race to prove age is just a number, they’re in it to not only become the first female team to win but they also want to inspire other young girls to grab their dreams with both hands and make them a reality.

What are you looking forward to the most on The Amazing Race Australia?
Everything about it! The Race itself is spontaneous like me. I can’t wait to travel internationally, compete in challenges and have the adventure of a life time alongside my best friend.
What is the biggest challenge or weakness you’ll need to overcome?
I have a huge phobia of spiders (especially huntsman spiders) and I am crossing all of my fingers and toes that I don’t have to interact with any. That will definitely be my biggest challenge!

What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
I hope to make it to the final three of The Race, that would be a huge accomplishment for myself and my teammate. Also just doing our best even if we fail or get eliminated, then we will know we have done our best in this competition and be proud we made it this far.
What excites and scares you most about traveling?
What excites me about travelling would be going to so many different countries and having that
opportunity to live in a way that they do on a daily basis. One thing that does scare me though is travelling alone without my family and getting lost in places I don’t know, especially if it’s another country speaking different languages.

Heath & Toni

Heath and Toni, a highly competitive husband and wife, are in it to win it. They are no stranger to the
stamina needed in The Race, with both working out at the gym three to four times a week. Heath plays squash and basketball weekly, and Toni plays badminton and netball weekly. Toni has been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, but she and Heath are in The Race to prove life can be positive and full of love and adventures. The two bring out the best in each other and have a perfect balance – Toni is a Calamity Jane, going one hundred miles an hour, and she speaks her mind. Heath is
incredibly loyal and everybody’s best friend. Together they have been on a nine-week tour around Australia in a camper trailer, as well as the UK, UAE, Laos, Vietnam, Canada, Iceland, Scotland, Indonesia, the Philippines, and now The Amazing Race Australia.

What excites and scares you most about traveling?
The feeling of the unknown when it comes to traveling is what excites but scares me about travelling.
Sometimes you have an experience of a lifetime when travelling which is one of the most exciting things. However, you can also find yourself in situations which are completely outside of you comfort zone especially when in a different culture.
What do you think will be your biggest advantage or strength in The Race?
I think our biggest advantage will be our resilience in the face of adversity. Toni and I have been through a lot as a couple and we have always come through the other side.

opportunities, to be able to travel (even with the world coping/living with COVID), to have fun and make lasting memories with Heath.

We are a good team, and each take on different roles and responsibilities, though Heath is not great when hungry (hangry).

Jake & Holly

Despite only being together for three years, Jake and Holly have had their fair share of ups and downs. After dating for a few short months, Jake was in a serious motorbike accident, where Holly, a model and regular pageant contestant, became his number one support and carer. As Jake battered through rehabilitation, he then also discovered he had throat cancer. Jake has pulled through, and he is planning on putting himself in a men’s physique competition by the end of the year.
Both Jake and Holly are social media influencers with strong personalities, who will do anything to win. This couple want to win to move on from their difficult past and build a new chapter together.

Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I enjoy all aspects of living a healthy life. Cooking nice food, spending time in nature, training at the gym, breathwork, watching the sun rise and set, swimming in the ocean, and listening to podcasts. I have also used my social platforms to openly talk about mental health and with my story, I have spoken on a few podcasts myself. I like using my story to inspire others to overcome their own adversity.
What is your proudest achievement in life?
Recovering from my physical injuries and being brave enough to opening up about my struggles mentally and breaking stigmas around men’s mental health.

What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
I want to know that I left every misgiving at the door and gave The Race everything I have. As long as I know that I tried my best, gave every challenge a red-hot crack, and never gave up, as far as I’m concerned, I’ve won.
What would you do with the prize money?
I would use the prize money to take those next big steps in my relationship with Jake. So much has happened
to us in the last couple of years and it held us back from a lot of things we want as a couple. We would put the money towards paying off our education debt and putting a down payment on an apartment.

Jodie & Claire
Dragon Boat Mums

Jodie and Claire, both proud mums, have been best friends for 15 years and are dragon boat teammates. They are not shy to competition, having won international gold medals in dragon boating in New Zealand, the Australian Masters in 2019 and the Coast-to-Coast competition in Queensland in 2021. In The Race, Jodie will take the water challenges and Claire will take the mental ones, as her midwifery job involves quick decision making. They aren’t great runners, but they will make up for it elsewhere – luckily Claire has an iron stomach! For Claire, winning would mean she could afford to reduce her very long work hours. Jodie wants Claire to win so they can spend more time together.

What’s the best and worst part of travelling with your teammate?
The best part of travelling with Claire is everything. She is funny, kind, caring and we just love each other’s company and get on really well. There isn’t a worst part of travelling with Claire.
What is your proudest achievement in life?
Being a mum of two amazing children and seeing them grow up into the most amazing young adults.

Kathy & Chace
Lawyer Cousins

Kathy and Chace are both lawyers in it to win it. The two are cousins of Vietnamese heritage and describe themselves as young Asian Australians pushing boundaries. They grew up together and are very close, literally in the same household at one point. They have 250 relatives – 40 of which are first cousins. Both their parents escaped war-torn Vietnam as refugees. Together they have travelled through Europe and Vietnam, and are excited for their next adventure. Extremely intelligent having both studied double degrees, the pair are strong willed, assertive, and often clash, which is something they’re working on. They will do anything to win, as long as it’s legal!

What do you think will be your biggest advantage or strength in The Race?
My linguistic skills and my natural propensity to connect with people. I speak five languages, in varying degrees of proficiency – English, Vietnamese, French, Italian and Spanish.
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I play as part of the Bentstix Hockey Club (LGBTQIA+ Sydney Hockey Club), and I love to dance salsa, bachata. I do language activities including language nights in Sydney where people all over meet up to practice their foreign languages.

Kelly & Georgia

Kelly and Georgia are newlyweds who are all about adventure. They have jumped out of planes, swam with sharks and climbed volcanoes. They love to travel, creating and posting videos about their journeys on YouTube. Together they have been to the Philippines three times, Indonesia twice and Singapore. Georgia has travelled throughout Europe and Asia, and Kelly has travelled to the USA and Asia. Both are used to being the leader due to their jobs as teachers, but when together, Georgia gives the directions, and Kelly takes the directions! They are extremely competitive and hate losing with a passion. Winning would help set up a life for themselves and a future family.

Where have you lived?
I have lived most of my life in Australia. I was born on the Gold Coast and then moved overseas to England for a few years as my dad was a professional rugby league player. We then moved back to Australia and I lived in Bundaberg for a couple of years before returning to Brisbane.
What do you think will be your biggest advantage or strength in The Race?
My biggest advantage will definitely be my analytical, calculating mentality. I’m a maths teacher so I’m very good at identifying the steps needed to solve a problem, and then calculating a solution.

What is your proudest achievement in life?
Graduating university with a distinction and getting my first teaching job at a top private school on the Gold Coast, as well as already travelling to a number of places.

Lauren & Steph

Lauren and Steph are partners at work and at home. They have known each other two years through
working as policewomen, and although they are complete opposites, their dynamic works. Steph is easily excitable, very organised and quick witted. She likes to do the job once and get it right. Lauren is slightly more reserved, slightly less organised and relaxed. Coming from a big family, she is very
competitive, especially during board game nights! Described as ‘a couple of strong lady coppers’, they want to win to prove they can support each other through anything, and they would use the prize money to buy a house together.

I’m really excited to travel with Steph to new places and experience road blocks and detours, and
potentially attempt a fast forward. I’ve been a huge fan of the show for years and the idea of getting to
compete and complete these challenges is so exciting. I can’t wait to be placed into challenging situations and experience the complete unknown.

Morgan & Lilli

Morgan and Lilli are energetic and adventurous best friends of 10 years. Since high school, they have
lived in over 20 share rooms, worked 10 jobs together and have seen over 100 cities together. They love snowboarding, surfing and anything that takes them outdoors. The pair share their journeys on social media, with no end to their adventures in sight. To win, they will do whatever it takes to cross the finish line first, pushing their bodies and minds to their absolute limits. They have been training for The Race for a long time. When they were 14, they pretended to be on The Amazing Race Australia and made their own challenges and obstacle courses!

I would like to prove to everyone and myself that I’m more than able to push myself mentally and physically in a way I’ve never done before. I would love to accomplish making new friendships, memories and experiences.

Best part about travelling with Lil is she is always reading up on the best places to go and like me always says yes to every opportunity. Worst part is that we always end up sharing a bed (even single beds) as we are constantly on a budget!

The main reason I want to be on The Amazing Race Australia is to travel and experience new cultures and places with my best friend, while literally doing The Race of a lifetime. Also, to come home as the first all female team to win.

Pako & Mori

Pako and Mori have been together 10 years and married for one. They are fun, loud and bubbly – laughing their way through any situation. Pako is Maori, feisty and can be known to take a joke too far! Mori is Chilean and is the cool and calm one of the pair. He has a heart of gold and is very kind, but can overthink things. Until very recently, both worked in
the same office helping those in need. They say “we are just really fun people, and we aren’t overselling it. It’s obvious we live our fantasy and have a blast.” They can be extremely competitive and are not afraid to push themselves to their limits to win.

Tell us a bit about your life and upbringing? Is there anything unique that stands out?
I grew up in a small country town in the far north island of New Zealand called Kaitaia. I joined the NZ Air Force when I was 17 and served for over three years. I took a year of leave and travelled to Australia and met Mori while I was here. We started dating but I only had six months of leave left and then I had to return back to the Air Force as I owed service time. I returned back to the Air Force and served another six months and was able to break my contract. I then left the Air Force and have been living in Australia for the past 10 years with my husband.
Do you have any travel horror stories?
I left my passport in an LAX toilet cubicle and did not realise until I got to my gate. My heart sunk as I raced back to the toilet to check – thankfully it was still there 30 minutes later, phew!

Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I have an unhealthy obsession with seasonal decorations – Halloween and Christmas. I am also extremely obsessed with anything horror- from film, the paranormal, even themed theatre or ghost houses, I smile from ear to ear. I love things like the concept of Ancient Aliens, the building of the pyramids, Machu Picchu Temples, the giant heads in Easter Island.
What is your proudest achievement in life?
Making my parents proud of the man I have become I owe them everything for what they have sacrificed for me.

Paul & Rachel

Paul and Rachel are an intelligent, outgoing and fun-loving father and daughter duo. Both are successful mortgage brokers – Rachel is a top emerging broker, and Paul has been awarded many accolades over his years. The two hang out together, talk work together and love watching AFL together. They have a close bond and have watched many seasons of the show together. They would use this knowledge to strategise in The Race. Through all the dad jokes, Paul is very supportive of his daughter and they get along like friends. Paul and Rachel are doing The Race to fulfil their dream as father and daughter, undertaking the ultimate adventure challenge.

Sam & Alex

Sam and Alex met at school 10 years ago, and the two friends both identify as LGBTQIA+.
Sam is not often seen without his designer bag or heard without his big booming voice. Alex is a smart, kind person, who is always happy to take one for the team. They call each other and everyone angel, because they can’t remember everyone’s names! While Alex walks six kilometres every day and does spin classes, Sam doesn’t exercise unless it is dancing. They have the finish line in their sights, and in order to win, they would use people’s underestimation of them to outwit the other teams. Winning would mean Sam could spend less time working, and more time writing music, and Alex could finally own a car and move out of home.

If Beau has to eliminate us (hopefully it’s not my fault).
What’s the best and worst part of travelling with your teammate?
Having my best friend with me traveling is the ultimate! Experiencing things together instead of telling him about it. But Alex loves to sleep talk and snore.

We have been to Bali, Tasmania, and done a mission trip to Coober Pedy.
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I love to go op shopping, I’m always on the lookout for anything nostalgic. I also have a collection of over 50 pairs of Converse shoes but none are going with me on The Race because I don’t want blisters. I love to do my spin classes with friends, it gives me a thrill when I’m on that bike.

Sam & Stu

Sam and Stu are lifelong friends who have known one another since kindergarten. Sam was born with Achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism. An inspiration to many, he is an easy-going guy, who will give anything a crack. He works for Nudge Foundation charity that helps young people get into jobs. Stu is also pretty relaxed. He is an incredibly loyal friend and has a mean retro mullet. They both love spending time outdoors, travelling, camping and hiking. No stranger to competition, Sam has competed at the World Dwarf Games in Canada and the US. Stu also drag races in Perth. Driven to succeed and both goal oriented, the pair are competitive and passionate about what they do. They want to inspire people with disabilities and prove that anything is possible.

What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
First things first, I hope to win it with my best mate Stu, but at the same time to enjoy the entire experience. Not often are you travelling the world while competing in a race under stressful situations. I hope once I have finished The Race and I am back home, I can look back and be proud of what I have achieved.

Tell us a bit about your life and upbringing? Is there anything unique that stands out?
My family is unreal, we are such a tight-knit family and get along so well. My twin sister has just had a son Darcy. Having Darcy in the family has definitely brought us all even closer, watching him learn and grow is really rewarding.
What would you do with the prize money?
Sam and I have been joking and laughing about getting a boat for the last four years, but no one has bit the bullet yet. If we win the prize money, we won’t have an excuse and will get one. Also, as young blokes it will set our lives up perfectly and could be used towards buying a house.

Stuart & Glennon

Stuart and Glennon were both raised within communities of Tiwi Island and Elcho Island. They met five years ago and instantly became best mates. Their first language is Tiwi and Yolngy Matha, but they are both well immersed in Western and Indigenous cultures, so this is no obstacle.
Glennon is single, has a bright personality and is always cheerful. He is studying a Diploma in Travel and Tourism/House Keeping in Daydream Island, Queensland. Stuart is a single father of two daughters, is passionate about helping people on Elcho Island battling Rheumatic Heart Disease, and won the 2021 NT Young Australian of the Year award. The two are both very competitive and thrive for success in all areas of their professional and personal lives. Stuart would spend the prize money on education, and Glennon wants to help his family and demonstrate to
their communities that anything is possible.

I got lost in Spain for a couple of hours separated from my group. The train stations all looked the same.

Being culturally sensitive and knowing how to approach different people with different cultural backgrounds.

Tammy & Vincent
Scientific Siblings
Victoria/Queensland
Australian-born with Chinese heritage, these two siblings describe themselves as being from “a nerdy
science family of seven kids!” Tammy and Vincent are both extremely intelligent, and describe their relationship dynamic as like “Fred and George from Harry Potter.” They love to have a laugh and a good time, and are always deadly honest with each other. The two spend their spare time playing video games, card games and watching movies. Not shy to sports, Tammy is into Muay Thai kickboxing, dancing and volleyball, and Vincent is also into volleyball along with
basketball, snowboarding and rollerblading. The Race won’t be the first time they have travelled together, as the pair have previously been to China,
Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.

What’s the best place both in Australia and in the world you have visited and why?
Gold Coast for its pristine, beautiful beaches (nostalgic for me too being my home town) and both India and Italy for the food and rich culture.
What do you think will be your biggest advantage or strength in The Race?
To stay calm under pressure and even when things aren’t going according to plan, to persevere and never give up.

Why do you want to be on The Amazing Race Australia?
To embarrass, tease and joke with my sister on national TV, seriously. Also, this is a once-in-a-lifetime incredible adventure, woo hoo! Pretty much to have a good laugh and a good time.
What would you do with the prize money?
Play an elaborate prank on my family and friends, I can’t say too much here but something like a flash mob! I’d also like to give my parents a comfortable retirement and buy a house.

Tiffany & Cynthia
Aunty & Niece
Western Australia
Tiffany and Cynthia are a competitive aunty and niece duo. They love to win, but they are also fair players
and love to help people as it’s in their nature.
Cynthia has lived with her Aunty on and off over the years. They both feel their Indigenous background has
allowed them to be open minded and happy to try new things, and experience new cultures.
They have watched The Amazing Race their whole lives and are massive fans. They want to do The Race to
see the world.

What do you hope to accomplish on The Race?
To do something completely out of my comfort zone. To give it a go, make my family proud. Be a role model
for my children, nieces and nephews, and other young Indigenous people from my community.
Tell us a bit about your life and upbringing? Is there anything unique that stands out?
I grew up with my mother’s Aboriginal family in the Pilbara and Kimberley region. I had a very hard-working
mother, who set the standard for my life today. Growing up with an amazing mum like mine and coming
from a small town, has taught me many good life lessons.

What are you looking forward to the most on The Amazing Race Australia?
Travelling! And the challenges as well as meeting the other teams.
What is the biggest challenge or weakness you’ll need to overcome?
How much I hate the cold and being cold, and touching frogs or snakes!
