I agree it may not be the right timeslot for the show but i also think one of the reasons Brain Eisteddfod is failing is because of all the encores. This has been something i have pointed out numerous times before with Ten shows having too many of them. Firstly it makes it hard to keep track of which is the premiere & which is the encore since it does not always say on the show title that it’s an encore or on the epg info that it is a repeat. And secondly it is simply over exposure. Thirdly people may think they won’t bother watching the premiere as they know they can catch an encore 3 other times during the week.
Looks like The Block is having a halo effect on the rest of Nine’s schedule.
Surely Seven would be worried given The Block probably runs until early November. MKR, Farmer Wants A Wife and Australia’s Got Talent seem unlikely to come even close to toppling it. Home and Away’s huge loss of viewers from Seven News night in night out must also be causing concern. Might be time to move H&A to 7TWO.
It’s a shame Aftertaste isn’t doing better, it’s a great comedy.
If they moved Home and Away to 7Two, what would they replace it with in the 7pm time slot? Seven no longer has a current affairs show, unlike Nine.
I don’t think this timeslot should work for Brain eisteddfod, instead it should only be suited for after school programming. Similar to It’s Academic at 4pm. This is similar concept to the Eisteddfod Show, but does have some differences including the Beat the buzzer, information segment, and unscramble the picture.
Is primetime the correct timeslot for Shaun Micallef’s Brain Eisteddfod? It seems more suited for weekday afternoons after school. It’s dubbed It’s Academic for high schools. It should have more features like an on-screen gameboard with progression, and maybe also some practical activities as well, for example. The humour helps but education shouldn’t be boring.
They gave Win The Week another chance thinking it was the lack of audience or some other issues, but I think it’s the format. It’s dubbed the poor person’s Have You Been Paying Attention? It’s so bland, uninspiring and unoriginal. ABC can do much better. They could research some of the popular game show formats from overseas that haven’t made it to Australia yet.

Taskmasters is screaming out for an Aussie version….NZ have one!
I’ve seen at least a couple of episodes of the UK Taskmaster. This is exactly the notion as to coming up with an interesting concept. It would get double or triple the ratings of Win The Week. The celebrity comedian casting is a large factor in the success of Taskmaster though. But the format can easily work without celebrities as well, or a mix of celebrities and general members of the public.
I tried to watch Brain Eisteddfod, a couple of times but it just did not seem to be what had been promised and Shaun I think was trying too hard to be funny, it may have worked better if it was just a straight quiz.
I like him on Mad as Hell.
Something about school kids in prime time does not sit with me either.
Yep it’s a show probably slots in anywhere between 4:30pm – 6pm, much like It’s Academic used to be, even back in 2013-16 when it was on again on 7Two, can’t go too much earlier as you need children home from school and settled. Even then, with all the Homework they get and only a short time out of having to do School remotely at Home due to covid, it probably wouldn’t really do much at those times either and forget about weekends.
Well that’s based on my children anyway, at the moment the last thing they want is to be reminded of school out of school hours, as they want home to be their time away from it all again. Which I understand after the last couple of years of home and school being the same place, no matter how many times I nag them to do their homework and say I’m there to help if they need it, I get it.
As great as Shaun in, posh kids in school uniform have no place in prime time.
Not sure what makes them “posh”.
