
Planet America returns strong in new ABC slot
10 and ABC tie for third place. Breakfast shows are low, Nine wins Monday.

“New time, new night,” said John Barron as Planet America returned to a 9:30 Monday slot on ABC.
“Here we go again,” added Chas Licciardello.
The ABC series returned strong at 316,000, even winning its timeslot (save for 10’s HYBPA? trailing over its start). That’s around double what the slot has been averaging of late.
Meanwhile The Block led entertainment and the demos at 773,000, outranking 7:30 (496,000), Farmer Wants a Wife (486,000), Australian Story (438,000) and The Amazing Race Australia (332,000).
Later Have You Been Paying Attention? led with 506,000, followed by Media Watch (428,000), Four Corners (407,000), and Under Investigation (294,000).
Nine network won Monday with 29.9% then Seven 26.4%, 10 and ABC tied on 17.8% then SBS 8.0%.
Nine News (837,000 / 837,000) was best for Nine. A Current Affair (686,000) and Hot Seat (362,000 / 271,000) Australian Crime Stories was 97,000 in 3 cities with 100% Footy at 62,000 across the network.
Seven News was #1 at 956,000 / 926,000 then The Chase (523,000 / 323,000), Home & Away (458,000), 9-1-1: Lonestar (161,000) and SWAT (83,000).
The Project managed 303,000 / 210,000 for 10. 10 News First (265,000 / 175,000) and Just for Laughs Australia (193,000) followed.
ABC News was 585,000 for ABC. Â The Drum drew 165,000.
On SBS it was SBS World News (150,000 / 129,000), Lighthouses: Building The Impossible (144,000), DNA Family Secrets (130,000) 24 Hours In Emergency (107,000)
9GEM’s Death in Paradise had a rare win across all multichannels at 111,000.
Sunrise: 194,000
Today: 165,000

I’m guessing Planet America is cheaper to produce than Q&A? As I thought only imports were going to screen post 9.30pm on ABC.
I asked ABC about this recently and while I didn’t get a clear answer I will revisit soon (given there has been change in management). I suspect it was about not commissioning new 9:30 shows, but it may have changed.
