Tony Jones tells AFL to “get stuffed” over Brownlow snub

“If the AFL is watching, you can get stuffed, it’s a crap night," Nine's Tony Jones says of Brownlow Medal night.

Nine News and Sunday Footy Show presenter Tony Jones has vented over being snubbed by the Brownlow Medal telling the AFL to “get stuffed.”

Jones, whose comments came at a time when Nine had been bidding for AFL rights, told the Sunday Footy Show it was the first time in over 30 years he had not been invited.

“If the AFL is watching, you can get stuffed, it’s a crap night,” Jones joked ….sort of.

“I was unaware of it until I heard (Damian Barrett) speaking to the wardrobe department. I’ve gone through all my emails, archives, junk, anyway, so I’ve officially been snubbed.”

AFL communications boss Jay Allen confirmed Jones missed out on an invite when they were extended last month, but has since been invited for September 19.

Jones later told The Herald Sun: “I’m not sure… it’s very kind of Jay… but I’m not sure the ego can recover from this one”.

  1. I saw this bit on YouTube…and it is just that – a manufactured bit. He may be slightly miffed, but played it up for the program.
He does a faux outrage sketch every couple of weeks and storms off set. This time the Herald Sun grabbed it and ran with it for the clicks.
