The world is paying its respects to Queen Elizabeth II, who has died after an extraordinary, record-breaking reign.
“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

As Australia, the Commonwealth and the world mourns the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, join Sunrise for historic coverage from 4,30am on Channel 7 and 7plus.
The longest-serving British monarch “died peacefully” at the age of 96, with the Crown now passing to her eldest son and heir, Charles, formerly Prince of Wales.
The 73-year-old new King and Camilla, Queen Consort were at his mother’s bedside, on her Balmoral Estate, along with his siblings Anne, Princess Royal; Andrew, Duke of York; and Edward, Earl of Wessex.
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Cornwall joined his brother Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex as the Royal Family rushed to farewell their beloved ‘Granny’; while their respective wives, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, kept vigil from the Royal Windsor Estate, near London.
Emblematic of her pledge to devote her life to serving the people of the British empire and Commonwealth, the Queen – while looking frail – carried out her final duty as sovereign two days ago – farewelling outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and greeting his successor, the 15the Prime Minister under Her Majesty’s reign, Liz Truss.
Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch will anchor rolling coverage, with live crosses to UK and European correspondents Hugh Whitfeld and Sarah Greenhalgh; and an expert guest list including royal editor Robert Jobson, royal commentator Victoria Arbiter, royal correspondent, Emily Andrews, ITV News royal editor, Chris Ship and Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers.

SBS:
SBS has conducted extensive editorial planning for this major news event. Ben Lewis, our Chief International Correspondent is based in London and is covering the news.
The Royal Family’s funeral plan, Operation London Bridge – which includes the announcement of the Queen’s death, the period of official mourning, and the details of her state funeral – is made known to accredited media outlets. SBS is an Operation London Bridge accredited news outlet.
World News is broadcasting special coverage at 12 noon with Anton Enus and SBS online has rolling coverage in with a live blog.
Given SBS’s diverse audience and mission, our role is to provide the big picture view on this major global story. This morning we have run coverage of this story from the UK, France, India and others.
SBS, unlike the BBC, does not have specific directives requiring news readers to wear dark colours. Rather, we reflect the prevailing mood and most presenters will acknowledge this by wearing dark colours.
Additionally, the SBS newsroom is generating real time news that is picked up by our various language teams and translated into dozens of languages. These teams are also seeking views and reactions from voices among their language communities.
This evening we will be airing the following tributes: 7.30pm Remembering Elizabeth / 8.30pm The Queen and Her Prime Minister.
On SBS OnDemand we have also made available a number of key documentaries paying tribute.
NITV:
NITV is taking SBS World News coverage and putting together a 2-3 minute package of Indigenous views on the news from across the country. This is scheduled to air at 3pm.

Gogglebox is going to be a bit boring this week
There is away of avoiding 2 much coverage of the Sad Passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 just watch some DVD’s if you have any
The extended coverage is due to the 12 days of protocols….the King’s accession …his first speech…the Queen lying instate and her funeral…..This is a rare event…that is what the ABC and TV is here for….not just for your entertainment….but to inform.
A good point. Public broadcasting has always been about 3 things: inform, educate, entertain.
Just reading The Guardian, seems the BBC and other channels are having the same issues ..damned if they do, damned if they don’t….only Ch.4 is offering alternative viewings.
Giant breakfast figures on Friday as expected. The evening news figures suggest that with the wall to wall coverage all day, people were tiring of it by 6pm.
People in the comments need to grow up. If you’re sick of it don’t whinge on here.
Show some respect.
This isn’t a new criticism. People expressed that after the Princess Diana tragedy about the rolling coverage too back then. I think both points are valid. The respect, dignity, gravitas and need for news, but also note that scheduled programming on many channels has been adjusted, which can be a nuisance. The rolling coverage can become repetitive at times. I think it’s a good idea to keep the rolling coverage diverse, broad and interesting instead of repeating the same news reels, interviews and commentary.
What’s a good compromise if unhappy with the rolling coverage? It’s a good time to check out some other programming that would’ve otherwise gone overlooked.
A profoundly sad day for many Australians and the people of the Commonwealth that sadly not everyone understands. Rolling coverage and then some is more then appropriate for the loss of someone who devoted a life to service.
Pretty shocked at some of the comments.
The Death of the Queen has been rolling since 4am on ABC, it’s been going on repeat all day…and I’m sick of it !!!
Seven originally programmed the AFL Semi Final Live…But the Death of the Queen is on All of Seven’s Channels.
9HD are showing Live NRL Finals…But Seven are showing Repeats…Not happy Seven!!!…Worst Television Channel Ever.
All Sevenseem to do is Show repeats on Everything !
Angry viewer !!!!
where are you located? AFL is on 7 here in Melbourne tonight….
If the coverage bothers you, do something else. Go for a walk, read a book, or go to the gym.
tbh seems like a pointless comment since this site is about TV, not what the alternatives to watching it are…
Or watch one of the multititude of channels and streaming services that aren’t showing it, perhaps?
This is a TV commentary and you are saying “Go for a walk/go to the gym”. Not the best comment – the repetitive coverage is insulting to her life.
Back to normal programming thanks
“Repeats” of what? In NSW AFL is on 7mate as usual.
Good weekend to read a book, watch a DVD or head to the movies if your not interested in the coverage.
Grow up.
Rolling coverage is definitely an overreaction! She was just the Queen, what about rolling coverage for when Olivia Newton-John died? Archie Roach, Josephine Tewson, Ray Liotta, Bert Newton, Desmond Tutu, or anyone else who has died? Annoying that so much regular programming is interrupted due to someone dying, which happens to all of us.
Good luck with that.
I did not even know her but I have been crying over her death. Her mother lived till over 100 and I thought she would reach the same age.
As massive a news item as this is, i do think ‘rolling coverage’ of these sort of events does get too much. I’m sure there are many people who do not want to watch hours upon hours of coverage. However the people will choose, and it will be interesting to see the ratings for it. I certainly do not think things like scheduled sporting match broadcasts should be shifted around though.
Eve shifting sporting matches around is too much. They aren’t shifted for anyone else’s death.
I’m a bit confused, can someone explain how Tracey Vo, Leila McKinnon, Angela Bishop and Carrie Bickmore all happen to be in London reporting on this? Their arrivals could absolutely not be possible, even if they had left the second the palace made the initial announcement. What are we not being told here?
Angela and Carrie is a coincidence. Both were in the UK for George Clooney’s red carpet movie premiere (Ticket to Paradise).
They were already in London. Carrie and Angela were covering the premiere of A Ticket to Paradise.
The Queens death is an end of a truly historical era not just for Britain but also for Europe and the Commonwealth as well. The British Monarchy has links with European Royalty that has lasted centuries and now that the Queen has passed it remains to be seen if King Charles III will reign with the same public fondness and admiration that was enjoyed by Queen Elizabeth II, a truly great Monarch in every sense of the word.
I knew this day would be very sad when it came. This has thrown a lot of scheduling into disarray. If it gets repetitive with the life stories as amazing and inspiring as they are, then the multichannels and subscription channels are possible options for something different.
Many countries have royals but Queen Elizabeth seemed to cross cultures and find universal admiration for the most part. Queen Maxima is possibly the next most loved monarch after Queen Elizabeth and hope to see more stories and occasions with Queen Maxima in the media now Queen Elizabeth has passed. The UK isn’t the only country with royalty and it’s always a good source for news and media stories for journalists.
This is very sad day for the world whenever you like her or not she was a beautiful lady to us all.
RIP Queen Elizabeth.
I’m truly gutted, I thought she would live till over 100 just like her Mum. I really never believed this day would come. She was the most admired woman, mother and woman of the people. Now she is finally with her dashing prince. She is a lady who will never be forgotten and the history she created cannot be matched. RIP you have earned respect and love that is immeasurable for all the years of dedication and service. The world will never be the same without you. A forever treasure.
Does anyone know if 7(afl finals) and 9(nrl finals) will shift the games starting tonight to the 7mate and 9gem channel respectively, due to the queen passing?
Rest In Peace “Queenie”! Thank you for your 70 years of dedicated service
ABC’s EPG indicates rolling coverage through until 1.30am
I was watching…. ABC did do live updates as part of wider bulletin, but not rolling.
Extremely sad news. Cannot believe she has passed. Back in the days I was able to see the Queen Elizabeth in Perth in 2011.
May she Rest In Peace.
Bog and sad news.
Extensive televison coverage in coming days no doubt.
ABC’s announcement came from Perth, before switching to BBC coverage for a few minutes until 4am when Michael and Lisa started
Sandra Sully presented a Breaking News bulletin on 10.
It was Sarah Harris. She has also been anchoring the 5pm Sydney bulletin this week.
The Breaking News bulletin I watched on 10 this morning was definitely Sandra Sully.
My condolences go out to the Queen’s family and Royals. Thanks David for providing information. I hope rage will still be on this weekend in some form as music makes me really happy and don’t use YouTube.
he was mistaken 😉
Nope. Sandra Sully presented a Breaking News bulletin around 4am.
Sarah Harris presented the morning news.
Sandra presented the 5pm bulletin. She choked up at the end. Sarah said at the end of last nights bulletin she’d be back to night, but with such a massive news day, 10 obviously wanted their top newsreader at the desk.
Apologies, at first glance I read “breakfast” rather than “breaking”. Sarah had been on air from around 7:00am. Sandra prior to that of course.
