Chris Uhlmann, Lane Calcutt depart Nine.

More profile exits at Nine News.

More departures at Nine News took place last week.

Nine Network Political Reporter announced on Twitter, “After 35 years, I bid farewell to Nine News. Thank you to all who have watched and those I’ve worked with who have made this journey so rewarding and enriching. Goodbye and good luck.”

Most recently the veteran reporter has been state political reporter at Nine News Brisbane, but joins Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s team as an adviser.

Meanwhile Chief Political Editor Chris Uhlmann, who announced his plans in February, has now formally departed.

Uhlmann joined Nine from the ABC in 2017, replacing legendary Laurie Oakes.

“I am going quietly into the good night,” he told The Australian. “I am done. I am retired.”

Uhlmann, who also co-wrote the novels on which Secret City was based, plans to travel.

He is tipped to be replaced by Charles Croucher.

Last week Liam Bartlett announced he would leave 60 Minutes next month, while Tracy Grimshaw exits A Current Affair at the end of November.

  1. Personally, I think Chris Uhlman will be seen again in a guest commentary role, some news channels may see him as good value. I’m curious why Lane Calcutt would want to be an advisor for Queensland Premier Palaszczuk she has enough spin doctors polishing her political image as it is. Still, Lane could have a job for a year or so at least.

  2. to those of us that have to listen to him in Queensland…i wish Wally Lewis would take note and leave too.he has this same moronic lilt to his voice…i avoid their 6pm sports session now.why is it cause you carried a rugby ball years ago, you’re automatically a broadcaster?

    1. Bit harsh he’s contributed extensively over the years to the news, (having known him personally through my father) as for his voice not nice saying that in my opinion really that’s just how he was born because no one I believe has the right to call anyone out on personal traits or even worse looks (a dreadful trend nowadays too thanks to social media for that) Instead of “pump up the volume” you can simply turn it down.
PS sooner carry a rugby ball than a chip on the shoulder

  3. Hope Lane Calcutt got a good send off or recognition for his long tenure like Tracy, Liz Hayes and Peter Overton did recently. 35 years at one employer should be celebrated.
