Sydney’s Andrew Lambrou to represent Cyprus at Eurovision

24 year old who appeared in Australia Decides this year will represent Cyprus in Liverpool contest next year.

Aussie-born singer Andrew Lambrou has been chosen by Cyprus to represent the nation at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

His participation is a collaboration between broadcaster CyPB, Panik Records of Greece and City Pop Records of Australia.

The hunky 24 year old is of Greek-Cypriot heritage and previously competed at Eurovision: Australian Decides earlier this year with Electrify.

In 2015, he entered The X Factor, reaching the top 20. That same year, he was signed by Sony.

Cyprus holds the unenviable record for the most times participating in the Contest without winning. The best placing came in 2018 when Eleni Foureira finished second with Fuego.

Other Australians who have competed for foreign nations have included triple winner Johnny Logan, Olivia Newton-John, Gina G. and Jane Comerford in German country band Texas Lightning.

  1. It’s a great story. Something you can get behind and support. If Australia doesn’t win, there’s also Andrew to cheer on. The rise to fame from posting music on social media, to appearing on The X Factor and soon to be on Eurovision.

  2. Andrew have a great performance with an ok song at Australia Decides so hopefully he’ll do well if he gets the right song.

Still no news on Australia Decides for 2023. In previous years the song portal would already be open. Am worried we are going with an internal selection – would be a shame as it’s such a great event. Hope it’s cleared up at the SBS Upfronts.

    1. If memory serves, David has previously posted that SBS aren’t hosting their upfronts until into next year. It’ll need to be settled before then.
I’d imagine the QLD Government has previously been a financial backer of the event on the GC, so you’d think it’s contingent on that being ongoing.

    2. I hope they don’t go the internal route. Australia Decides is what got me into Eurovision and it’s a really well done event. Please SBS don’t get rid of it.
