Aussie producers win at NZTV Awards

A new animated series, co-written by Melanie Bracewell, is looking to spread its wings after a win in NZ.

Australian / NZ production company Sweetshop & Green have won Best Children’s TV show at NZTV Awards for their animated series, Bird’s Eye View.

The 8 part comedy, written by Nick Ward with Melanie Bracewell, Andrew Beattie and Te Waiarangi Ratana turns the tables on the traditional concept of ‘bird-watching’ as an animated cast of Native New Zealand birds ponder and debate the weird and bizarre behaviours of humans in their natural habitat.

The birds are voiced by Millen Baird, Kerry Warkia, Gemma Easton, Stan Walker and Andy Faulkner.

Season two is in development and will look to broaden the horizon across the Tasman to Australia with the introduction of some colourful new Australian native birds to the New Zealand whānau.

Sweetshop & Green, which is based in Melbourne and Auckland produced with TVNZ’s HeiHei, in partnership with Studio Local. Sharlene George, Gal Greenspan, Tania Smiler and Gemma Easton produced with directors Pete Circuitt and Jared Kahi.

Upcoming projects include documentary The Defenders for Prime Video.
