Bluey debuts in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Another fantastic achievement for ABC icon as she quietly invades America with a beaming big blue grin.

On Thursday morning (NYT), approximately 3.5 million people gathered along Manhattan boulevards to see a giant Bluey balloon in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It’s been a big week for the ABC icon, with Bluey’s Big Play at the iconic Madison Square Garden, a guest appearance at the International Emmys and then being declared the ‘best show on TV right now’ by Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon.

The Thanksgiving Day Parade is watched by 50 million viewers across the States and kicks off their holiday season.

Among the spectators were special guests Joe Brumm, creator of Bluey, who was joined by Melanie Zanetti, the voice of Chilli, and David McCormack, the voice of Bandit, along with producers and directors from Ludo Studio.

The balloon, which measures an impressive 16 metres tall, 15 meters long and 11 metres wide, is equivalent to the size of a 4-storey building in height and 7 taxis wide. The Macy’s Parade Studio Team hand-painted 189 litres of blue paint to bring Bluey to life.

“As one of the most popular characters in children’s entertainment today, we could not be more excited to welcome Bluey, all the way from Australia, to the 96th Macy’s Parade line-up,” said Jordan Dabby, producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

  1. I happened to be watching the live stream (on you tube) as Bluey rounded a corner. The crowd were so excited to see him! I got such a thrill knowing his debut was so successful.

  2. Bit of trivia for those interested Melanie and David had never met until appearing on a chat show in America. This is because they record separately. Now that’s genius but not unusual when these shows are put together. Makes you wonder what the future holds for tv shows and movies.
