ABC has pulled its controversial Folau documentary from its planned Monday broadcast.
“We are still working on the documentary and clearing footage which has meant pushing it back in our schedule. A new transmission date will be announced shortly,” ABC said in a statement.
It will be replaced on Monday, 21st November by Brock: Over the Top and on Monday, 28th November by The Australian Dream.
Four Corners wrapped its 2022 season on Monday. ABC also moved Media Watch to an 8:30 start.
Folau is produced by In Films (Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra) but yet to offer the 2 part doco for media preview.
Israel Folau did not participate in the doco.
Folau is the story of one of Australia’s most gifted and controversial athletes – Israel Folau – and how a social media post landed him at the heart of our culture wars, derailing careers in the process. For the first time Israel Folau’s story is examined in all its multilayered complexity, featuring crucial Pasifika voices and exploring the nexus between freedom of religion and speech, protection from discrimination for the LGBTQIA+ community, and how far the workplace can reasonably go to balance the two . Totally agree, have a Pacific Islander (his preferred description) son in law and it’s an absolute no go subject with him, his mates and family.
Seems odd to promo it, put it in schedules if it hasn’t had all the clearances yet?
