“I’ll definitely be back to visit”: Ellen Pompeo thanks Grey’s Anatomy fans

“You know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit" says long-running star ahead of her exit.

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo and executive producer has promised fans she eventually will return as Meredith following her departure as a full-time cast member.

Reports of her scaling back her role were revealed mid year. A mid season final aired last week in the USA in which Meredith Grey signalled her exit, although her final episode “I’ll Follow the Sun” does not screen until February.

The star of 19 seasons took to Instagram to tell fans she is “eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support” fans have shown for her and her character for 19 seasons. “You know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit.”

She remains an executive producer and will provide the voiceover narration for all episodes this season.

Grey’s Anatomy screens in Australia through Star / Disney+.

  1. What’s going on with Station 19? It was supposed to come back later this year & we’re half way through November & no sign of it. Will it air over the summer?

          1. Oh ok thanks for that. Wish networks wouldn’t air shows for a couple of seasons & then ship them off to a streaming service.

  2. I mean no disrespect to Ellen but the show is bigger than her at this point.
Her storylines have been the least impactful to the show for many season now and 2 seasons ago she spent almost the entire season in a coma with a few spread out beach scenes.
It is definitely a loss, but the show is an ensemble and with the hospital named after Grey the legacy lives on.

  3. Its the end of an era : ( There is no Greys without Meredith Grey. They kind of knew this was coming so i don’t know why they didn’t decide to end the show. If they want to continue it, spin the show off instead. All i can say is thankyou for 19 incredible seasons Ellen. Really going to miss her. The show won’t be the same without her.

  4. Noooo!!!! Although I knew this was coming for a while David, Ellen has helped with getting me through the difficult times of having surgeries during high school and early adulthood as well as health battles associated with my disability Cerebral Palsy. I started watching when I was in Grade 11 (2008) while taking a term off school from orthopaedic surgery and have remained loyal ever since.I actually resonate with hospitals quite a lot after undergoing 15 brain surgeries and 14 general/orthopaedic surgeries before I turned 30.
