Renewed: Grey’s Anatomy

The longest-running primetime medical drama in US history gets another season.

Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for a mammoth 20th season, extending its record as the longest-running primetime medical drama in US history.

Meg Marinis, who began as a researcher in Season 3, succeeds Krista Vernoff as showrunner. She spent nearly two decades working her way up to executive producer.

The renewal comes on the heels of Ellen Pompeo in her last episode as a series regular. But she continues to serve as an executive producer, and is expected to make an appearance in the Season 19 finale in May.

However it’s unclear whether Pompeo will continue her duties on the show beyond the current season.

  1. I have been a true and loyal fan of this show since the very beginning, but I have struggled over the past years to keep my interest. I feel that it slowly lost its direction as key characters were written out. So I agree with Ryan. Make next season the last; with a new bunch of interns setting out on surgical adventuress ahead and go out on a high.

Merediths story is done and she didn’t need a fairy tale ending.

Something I have always loved about this show however is its diversity. Right from the original casting to now, they were diverse and didn’t make a song and dance about it. Something for this show to be very proud of.
