Sarah Harris joins The Project

“This is one of the biggest and best jobs in TV!" says Sarah Harris becoming newest co-host of 10 panel show.

Another announcement from The Project, but this time more positive with Sarah Harris leaving Studio 10 to join the primetime show from Sunday to Thursday.

The announce follows the resignations by Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Helliar.

10 has also confirmed Waleed Aly will remain a mainstay of the show Monday through to Thursday.

Sarah said: “This is one of the biggest and best jobs in TV. How could I say no?

“I’m beyond excited to be joining one of Australia’s most iconic and agenda driving shows. The Project does news like no other program in Australia and it’s exactly the kind of fun and fearless TV I love to make.

“I can’t wait to share the desk with Waleed, Hamish, Georgie (Tunny) and the rest of the team. I’m excited to shake it up in the new year!”

Waleed Aly said: “She’s smart. She’s warm. She’s great fun. That’s the trifecta for The Project. Everyone who’s worked with Sarah raves about her, and I can’t wait to become one of them.”

The Project Executive Producer, Chris Bendall, said: “Sarah is a journalist and presenter at the top of her game and I am so excited to work with her. Her intelligence, insight and sense of humour makes her the perfect host for The Project as we launch a re-energised show for 2023.

The Project’s unique blend of news and entertainment is its strength and with Sarah joining Waleed on the desk we will keep delivering the show viewers have come to know and trust.”

Network 10 Executive Producer, Tamara Simoneau, said: “The Project desk has been home to some of this country’s most incredible broadcasters since its inception, so it makes sense that Sarah now joins the ranks.

“Her years on the road as a reporter at various networks and her almost decade-long stint hosting Studio 10 have prepared her for this next chapter in her career. Her warmth, openness and huge heart have endeared her to audiences, not to mention that killer sense of humour. Sarah joining Waleed at the helm of The Project marks the beginning of a wonderful new era for the show.”

According to 10, Hamish Macdonald will “continue to hit the road to report from around the country and bring the weekend energy every Friday and Sunday night from the desk, while reporter and producer Georgie Tunny adds Friday co-hosting to her duties.”

10 is yet to confirm Sarah Harris’ replacement at Studio 10, which she has co-hosted since 2013.

Bringing over 20 years of journalism experience to the desk, Sarah has interviewed everyone from rockstars to Royalty, and has covered huge events like the 2012 London Olympics, the Christchurch earthquake, and the Black Saturday bushfires. She’s also no stranger to snagging celebrity interviews and wrangling high profile talent in front of live audiences.

Part of the Network 10 family for almost 10 years, the mother-of-two has made her mark on Australian screens as a reporter, presenter, and most recently as co-host of Studio 10.

The announcement marks an exciting 2023 for the awarded news and current affairs show. A screen staple for over 10 years, The Project is the go-to for A-lister interviews, hot topic takes, cheeky banter and news delivered differently.

  1. I note that there was some self endulgent commentary in the newspaper today about the sudden personality changes for The Project including (gasp) that Peter Helliar quit before Lisa Wilkinson did according to one source. To my mind maybe the shows producers shouldn’t overthink things too much, maybe The Projects once fresh casual format has reached its use by date and maybe Network 10 should now move on, but they probably wont.

  2. Good choice. She works well on The Project.

I’d like them to cut back to having the same core presenters M-F and just change out Sunday. The constant revolving door is getting a bit tiresome. Carrie, Pete and Waleed worked because there was a regularity to their appearances that enabled audiences to bond with them, but in recent times, this has been lost because there’s been so much changeover. They need consistency at the desk again.

  3. Hopefully she gets a decent raise to cover the increased workload – no more five minute smoko, on The Project the hosts have to read out all the paid content themselves. And pretend it’s journalism. And keep a straight face while they do it! Exhausting!

  4. A good call by 10. Sarah is so under utilised on Studio 10. She is a quality talent. Much more suited to prime time. I didn’t think it would happen given she is based in Sydney and presumes she is now moving to Melb. Hopefully the show might be more balanced now without Lisa. I do feel Waleed’s questioning is more balanced in recent times. Maybe the producers a listening. Hope the refresh works for them in 2023.

  5. There was a primetime live-cross with Sarah Harris on Ten a couple of weeks or so ago. It might have been like a screen test. So from the point of view of The Project, it’s a respectable appointment. I still won’t be watching again because I’m not suited to their narrative and agenda, even though I’m quite progressive. I like news, I like comedy, but I don’t like the opinions because there can be so many, and many can be divisive.

I’d only think about watching again if there are major changes, like production company, more cast changes, setting, ambience and atmosphere of the show, including cooking and live music segments. Ditch the agendas, narratives and opinions, and stick to the comedy and news, or lightheartedness only to avoid biases and accusations of toxic media and wokeness.

  6. Congratulations to Sarah and good luck to her on The Project, although I will miss her on Studio 10. And I’ll be interested to see who replaces Sarah on Studio 10. Tristan MacManus’s wife Tahyna maybe?

  7. Given that Sarah will co-host the Project with Waleed, someone needs to replace Sarah on St10. I am predicting that Narelda will replace Sarah Harris on St10.

  8. I think I might agree with David. Some positive news. She is a breath of fresh air and a positive addition to the show. So many negative comments about this show in recent days, let us praise this news. And all the best Sarah!

    1. Or is Waleed moving to Sydney?

I was predicting the project would go Sydney Sun-Thurs with Sarah and Hamish, with Waleed/Pete in Melbourne on Friday nights. A bit more consistency. Guess not.

  9. Great choice 10 = 10/10!
Sarah was a great reporter at 9 on the Today show and has definitely earn’t her stripes on Studio 10.
I actually like the pairing with Waleed they should compliment each other well, all they need now is good permanent co hosts either side.
Bring back Peter Van Onselen to co host Sundays with Sarah and the week is set.

  10. The Project is one of the biggest and best jobs in TV? Australia’s most iconic show?

Interesting statements, but I suppose you’d want/have to use those words when you’re joining the show.

I’d think 60 minutes or ACA as iconic, as these have been on-air for over 30 years.

Good luck to Sarah and hope she steers the ship steady and to greater heights like she has for Studio 10 – massive loss for them. Wonder who will replace her?

  11. Those publicity pics are a constant source of amusement for me. Adjusting cufflinks? Check. Laughing because we have so much fun? Check. Then come the publicity materials for more giggles. Biggest and best job in TV? Haha, sorry, but no.

I like Sarah, but boy is she wasted at 10.

  12. Jumping from 1 leaking boat into a larger leaking bot. Rules her out of A Current Affair though. Also rules out I suspect taking the show back to 30 minutes.
How does Beverley McGarvey keep her job with these dismal ratings plus high wages for all the presenters on Studio Ten.
How about trimming the Project ti 30 mins & state based news bulletins for all states.

    1. I ask myself the same question about Beverly. Everyone can see what a disaster channel 10 is at the moment. But no one is doing anything about it.
She needs to start reading the forums and
      Listen to the people.
