Warrant for Outback Wrangler star

Updated: Outback Wrangler Matt Wright is expected to face charges over a fatal chopper crash which killed co-star Chris “Willow” Wilson.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Outback Wrangler, Matt Wright.

SKY News reports police are expected to charge Mr Wright, 43, with several offences which relate to a helicopter crash that killed co-star Chris “Willow” Wilson in February.

They will include perverting the course of justice, destruction of evidence, fabricating evidence, interfering with witnesses, unlawful entry and making a false statement.

“The man has been contacted via his legal team and informed he must present himself to Northern Territory Police in Darwin by 9am Wednesday 30 November,” a police statement read.

Mr Wilson, 34, was on a job collecting crocodile eggs in a remote area of West Arnhem Land when the helicopter he was travelling in crashed on February 28.

Chopper pilot Sebastian Robinson suffered serious spinal injuries in the crash.

Mr Wright, 43, was one of four people who subsequently flew to the scene in another helicopter.

Two of those people – helicopter pilot Michael Burbidge and police officer Neil Mellon – have already been charged with various offences, including destroying evidence.

The warrant for Mr Wright’s arrest follows a police investigation that has been running for more than six months.

He rose to fame more than a decade ago when Outback Wrangler was screened by the National Geographic Channel and subsequently on 9GO! The series has been viewed in more than 90 countries.

Wild Croc Territory, which was broadcast on Nine has since been screened on Netflix.

A second series has already been planned for next year.

Updated: A spokesman for Mr Wright said he “strenuously denies any wrongdoing”.

“What happened was a tragic accident that took the life of a close mate,” the spokesman said.
“His immediate concern following the accident was the condition of the two team members on-board at the time.

“The next priority was ensuring the other helicopters and team members at the site weren’t at risk and that the location was safe.

“Matt will not be making any further statement but he will be vigorously defending the charges.”
