10 revamps mornings as Studio 10 trimmed to 2 hours.

Studio 10 moving to 10am starts in 2023, with a news bulletin at midday and the recently-launched Breakfast bulletin dumped altogether.

Network 10 is overhauling its morning schedule for 2023 by trimming the marathon Studio 10 from a 3.5hr broadcast to just two hours, screening weekdays from 10 am – 12pm.

It will be followed by a 10 News First: Midday bulletin presented by Narelda Jacobs, while the current 8am 10 News First: Breakfast bulletin is dumped altogether.

From Monday January 9 an uninspiring line-up is as follows:

8.00am – 8:30am Everyday Gourmet With Justine Schofield
8:30am – 9.00am Entertainment Tonight rpt
9.00am – 9:30am Judge Judy
9:30am – 10.00am The Bold and the Beautiful rpt
10.00am – 12.00pm Studio 10
12.00pm – 1.00pm 10 News First: Midday

The shake-up follows the announcement that Sarah Harris will move to The Project in 2023.

If 10 is planning a new host announcement, it has not done so today, noting the presenters as Tristan MacManus, Angela Bishop, Narelda Jacobs and roving reporter, Daniel Doody.

Studio 10 launched 9 years ago with multiple presenters, anchored by Harris, who was joined by Tristan MacManus just over two years ago following a string of departures and cutbacks.

Narelda Jacobs said of her newest news position, “Talk about hitting the ground running in 2023. I’m thrilled to be able to share the world’s big moments on Studio 10, then deliver the day’s biggest headlines on 10 News First: Midday.

“When viewers stop to catch a breath at midday, I’ll be there with an exciting new national bulletin alongside some of the country’s best reporters.”

Martin White, Head of Broadcast News, said: “10 News First: Midday expands our news footprint throughout the day, bringing viewers the latest information and breaking news live. It’s a multi-platform bulletin, to satisfy the need for on-demand Australian news content wherever you are.”

White made no comment about the axed Breakfast bulletin which launched with Lachlan Kennedy and Natasha Exelby in June.

Back then he noted, “The addition of a new morning news bulletin in 10 News First: Breakfast expands and strengthens 10’s commitment to news across the day.”

  1. Will be good for ‘Entertainment Tonight’ to get a regular 30 minute slot-the afternoon showing is often cancelled or greatly shortened/edited because of the repeat showings of the previous night’s overly long programs.

    1. Agreed. It’s odd how they use ET an heavily edited filler. What’s more bizarre, they place that same edited version on 10play. Wouldn’t you upload the uncut edit to 10play?!

  2. I feel every one wants network 10 to be successful. But top management don’t!!!!
Why would anyone switch channels at 10am to watch studio 10. Start it at 9am.
Secondly who’s gonna watch the midday news when they’ve watched the 11:30am news on another channel.
Also David, do u know what’s going to happen to Dr Phil?? Is it still rating at 12pm?

  3. Studio 10, I like it when I can see it but lately been filled with infomercials and I dont know maybe use as an alternative Breakfast show from 7.00 to 9.00, I think that the big heads have no idea of what people want, and when.

  4. Definitely something at midday….by any channel….when Mums and home workers take a break …your eating and dont want muck all over your tablet/phone/laptop….Entertain us….something light and cheerful…music etc… Also The Loop Sat. AM & PM….there was something for every age.

  5. I think Ten should think outside of the box here. Studio Ten could potentially work well broadcast at midday for the lunchtime crowd who seem ignored these days. Forget mornings all together. 7 and 9 seem to have the market share in mornings. People are busy in the morning though. Working, school drop offs, shopping and running errands etc. But a lot of people do stop and sit down for lunch. There would definitely be an audience of people out there sitting down for lunch who’d enjoy a bit of entertainment. Angela Bishop interviewing celebs/interesting people etc. Cooking segment for ideas of what to make for dinner tonight. Brief News headlines so we know what’s going on in the world. Basically keeping the show the same but letting viewers have a bit of fun while they stop and sit down in front of the telly eating their lunch. Ten used to be good at doing things a little differently but seems to have lost its way and confidence lately which is a shame. Give it a go Ten!

  6. Surely no-one watches 3.5 hours of the show each morning?! It was always my understanding the show survived because the infomercial companies paid enough to cover production costs. It didn’t matter whether people watched it or not.

As for Ch 10 as a whole – has it made a profit any year in the last 10 years? Clearly this isn’t a priority?

  7. Hmm Hmm! I am at a loss at how Tristan has stayed in the job for this long … surely the dwindling ratings show the audiences lack of warmth and connection to him? I’m sure he’s lovely and he fits the bill as a DWTS judge but not quite as a tv host.

I also think the Studio 10 brand is beyond resurrection. Get the rights to GMA, create a smaller (cozy) set, and make it a fun filled 2 hours. A solo host perhaps such as Gretel, Jess Rowe or Anh Do?

  8. Oh dear….Who is going to change to 10 at 10am to watch Studio 10? They would have been better moving to midday to catch a lunchtime audience….and have news at 11.30am. As for Breakfast news….30 mins at 8am was never going to rate. Sunrise started as a simple news program. They should have run from 7am to 8.30….to attract a wider audience and could just repeat the content every 30 mins as the audience floats in and out at that time of the day. Then they might have built an audience for people just interested in news/interviews (possible replay of quality interviews/stories from the project the night before) These changes are clearly about the spreadsheet for CBS. Not about investing to improve the network.

  9. Although I don’t watch Studio 10, I personally think that having a 210 min ep is too much. It would be best if they stick to 2 hours instead of having 3.5 hours of morning talk. However, having Studio 10 at 10am is a bit too late. This reminded me back in 2010 when The Circle aired at 10AM straight after the 9am Morning News.

  10. 11am The Price is Right (it’s owned by CBS)
    3.30pm General Hospital
A solid daytime schedule should have a cooking show, a chat/talk show, a serial, and a cooking show. Whichever works best of all those you have another one (same but different)
While I’m at it, rebrand the news to CBS10 Eyewitness News. 6am, 12pm, 5pm and 10pm.

    1. I would love it if they added General Hospital but it’s been over 12 years since Foxtel canceled it but it would be fun to see it again.
They should have a midday movie or even at 1pm so many lovely movies from Hallmark would be fabulous. ❤️❤️

  11. Oh dear … as if these non peak/daytime changes will alter anything that is chronically wrong with this network. Fourth rating for 2022 and a financial loss of over $3mil is totally unacceptable at any level or perspective for a commercial network. It amazes me that the top management (and I do mean The top) is still in place. Surely this latest situation and similar results and that have been going on for years must be addressed by New York/CBS-Viacom Global asap and a new broom brought in across management and programming to sort this mess out.

  12. One of those decisions that had to be made given Studio 10 was always getting pitiful numbers compared to its opposition.

The 8.00am to 10.00am offerings though, are as David notes, uninspiring and in my view unlikely to bring new viewers.

The key morning battleground of course is that earlier time of 6.00am to 8.00am when people are getting ready for work/school and generally catch a bit of news. ABC do a really good job in this space at the moment and the Today/Sunrise offerings whilst a bit too light and advertising heavy are adequate alternatives. Hopefully Ten do choose something to be competitive in those house and not just infomercials as was suggested by an earlier poster.

  13. Still think Lisa Wilkinson as a single host doing a Burt Newton style GMA would work for 10. This concept of multiple presenters is crap, I find it annoying myself.

  14. oh ten . such poor decisions . i actually had a thought . one of their assists is amanda keller who has a successful breakfast radio show in sydney . could that talent be used to launch a real attempt at a breakfast show to take on today while it beds in new anchors

      1. Agree. Amanda recently renewed her contract with WSFM radio, so she ain’t going anywhere in the early mornings.

Separately, I thought The Bold and The Beautiful (repeat of previous day’s episode) was on at 7:30am? If pushed to 9:30am then something else must be on in place of it.

    1. I’d always thought Amanda Keller & Andrew Denton for Breakfast on 10.
They were great on morning radio together back in the day. I think I was only 12 when it finished, but Mum loved it haha.
