Gold Diggers set to hit the jackpot

Updated: A little more info on a little-known title announced by ABC last week.

More info has emerged on upcoming ABC series Gold Diggers, which was only briefly teased during the broadcaster’s Upfront last week.

Gold Diggers is produced by CBS Studios with The Alliance, a joint venture of Stampede Ventures and Kojo Studios, and is set in the 1850s Gold Rush in Australia.

“Thousands of men from around the world flock to the arse-end of the country to hit the jackpot, and so do two women in search of their own jackpot: newly rich idiots,” according to a plot description. “Gert, a heavy-drinking sociopath, and Marigold, her virginal, dummy sister, are willing to do anything or anyone to get their fortune; but first they must suffer the lads, lice and lechery of outback Australia.”

Stampede Ventures, based in the United States, partnered with KOJO to develop a slate of feature films and television series in 2019.

ABC Head of Comedy, Todd Abbott says “If Broad City met Deadwood on a drunken night in a gold mining theme park, it might almost resemble the action-packed, female-first, raucous retelling of history that Gold Diggers promises.”

“Working with the talented producers of Gold Diggers allows us to support diverse talent in front of and behind the camera while helping to tell entertaining stories that authentically reflect the world around us,” says Lindsey Martin, vice president of international co-productions and development at CBS Studios.

The Alliance (KOJO Studios x Stampede Ventures) Executive Producers, Linda Ujuk and JP Sarni add “We’re overjoyed to have the opportunity to share the comedic brilliance of Jack Yabsley and his fabulous co-writing team in this irreverent anti-patriarchy comedy packed with laughs, cheek and anarchy. The world is about to become completely obsessed with the scrappy Brewer sisters and their outrageous adventures.”

Production Credits: Produced by CBS Studios with The Alliance (KOJO Studios x Stampede Ventures) for ABC. Created and written by Jack Yabsley, with co-writers Erica Harrison, Shontell Ketchell, Alex Lee, Sara Khan and Wendy Mocke. Set up director is Helena Brooks. Series Producer is Muffy Potter, Script Producer is Trudi-Ann Tierney, Co Producer is Kate Butler, and Executive Producers are Linda Ujuk, JP Sarni, Greg Silverman and Dale Roberts.

  1. I’m in, love a rollicking good romp through Australia’s colourful past history. Go Gert and Marigold (had an imaginary friend called Marigold when I was a kid and she got the blame for setting our wood shed alight with a stolen church candle)
