“It’s been an incredible ride!”: Sarah Harris farewells Studio 10

For over nine years Sarah Harris was the heart & soul of Studio 10.

Sarah Harris signed off from Studio 10 yesterday, wrapping over nine years as the heart and soul of the 10 morning show -an inspired casting choice when she was poached from Nine.

During that time she married, had two kids, separated, worked through a pandemic, saw presidents and prime ministers rise and fall, monarchs succumb, the death of a close colleague and the overhaul of her show with hosts sacked and new ones hired.

The show also stretched out to a ridiculous 4 hrs of live television (aka ‘the Telethon’) but through it all Harris was the constant, shifting from breaking news to the unscripted frivolousness that is morning television (including a near-disaster with a nail gun).

So integral to the show it remains to be seen whether it can endure without her.

Yesterday she was joined by Angela Bishop, Daniel Doody, Craig Bennett and a return appearance by Joe Hildebrand (despite his spray at 10 earlier this week). There was even a video from The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur who looked forward to seeing her “hosting A Current Affair.”

“Can I just say that I am immensely proud and so very grateful to have spent almost a decade hosting Studio 10,” said Harris. “It’s like a century in TV years. Seriously it has been the best job I’ve ever had and I’ve worked in a lot of newsrooms over the years. This is the nicest place to work. I’ve made such good friends, lifelong friends, that I’m going to cherish forever. But I’m just one small part in what is a very big and wild and wonderful show that simply would not get to air if it wasn’t for the team of talented people working their butts off behind the scenes.”

She continued to thank crew and production staff.

“It’s been such an honour to share this couch with all of you, hosts present and past, and I can’t wait to see what the new era of Studio 10 looks like. You’re changed the timeslot so surely now that you’ve saved some money with me, get a new couch!”

Although co-host Tristan MacManus was ill and unable to attend, she sent a special message.

“‘TMac’ my young padawan I know you’re watching from home and I know you’re devvo not to be here today. I’m so sorry. You were thrown into the seat next to me… and straight away you shone.”

She added, “And finally, to our viewers who’ve embraced me so warmly on Studio 10. Thank you so much. I will never forget how kind you’ve been to me. Make sure you watch The Project, alright? I mean it! I’m gonna miss you all it’s been an incredible ride. Love you so much.”

Sarah Harris joins The Project from January 8.
