The third season of Happy Valley will screen on January 2 in Australia.

Sarah Lancashire, James Norton & Siobhan Finneran return for Sally Wainwright’s final season of the acclaimed police drama.

When Sergeant Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to murderer and rapist Tommy Lee Royce. Meanwhile, Catherine’s grandson Ryan is now sixteen and has ideas of his own about what kind of relationship he wants to have with Tommy, the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father.

The first two series of this critically acclaimed drama each won BAFTAs for Drama Series and Writing: Drama for Sally Wainwright, with Sarah Lancashire winning Leading Actress for series two.

Episodes will premiere on Mondays at 11:00am with repeats at 9.30pm from January 2 on BBC First.

  1. I’m really struggling to remember how the previous seasons have wound up. A little time to revisit, which is nice. Thanks for the head’s up David.

    I can only echo the sentiments of previous commenters: 7 years is a looong time between seasons. I realise Sally Wainwright has been busy with other shows, but I’m struggling to think of a longer hiatus between seasons that does not, in some fashion, include a reboot.

    That said, I’m very much looking forward to this. Sally Wainwright and Hugo Blick (and no, I haven’t started “The English” yet) are my two “appointment drama” writers.

  2. All I can say … it’s about time. Nearly 7 years is a looooong time to wait for the next & final instalment of such a brilliant show.

    Also amazing, is that BBC First is streaming Happy Valley 60 mins after its UK broadcast has concluded. This must be close to a 1st for BBC First !!!!

    I would happily pay for BBC First if they did the same for all UK shows, but alias, this is a rarity.

    1. Here! here! been waiting for closure on this one myself. With BBC First at least they show the latest series of Death in Paradise, Call TM Xmas special and new season within the first couple of months of the new year.
