Gentleman Jack, a new drama by writer Sally Wainwright (Scott & Bailey, Last Tango in Halifax, Happy Valley) will screen on FOX Showcase.
Suranne Jones stars as noted landowner and industrialist Anne Lister in the 8 part series, which is a UK-US co-production. Originally called Shibden Hall, the series centres around Lister who walked like a man, dressed head-to-foot in black, and charmed her way into high society. True to her own nature, she planned to marry a woman.
This premiered in the US in April but begins in the UK next week.
It also stars Joe Armstrong, Jessica Baglow, Amelia Bullmore, Rosie Cavaliero and Stephanie Cole.
Set in 1832 West Yorkshire, England, Gentleman Jack is inspired by the true-story and coded journals of Anne Lister (played by Suranne Jones), and follows her attempt to revitalise her inherited home, Shibdhen Hall. Most notably for the time period, a part of Lister’s plan is to help the fate of her own family by taking a wife.
Sundays from May 19 at 7.30pm on FOX Showcase.
