Returning: The Test

S2 goes behind-the-scenes of the Australian men’s cricket team in the face of disruptive leadership changes.

Season two of Australian Amazon Original docuseries The Test will screen in January.

The four-part docuseries goes behind-the-scenes of the Australian men’s cricket team as they strive to be the best in the world, in the face of disruptive leadership changes.

The Test Season One was the biggest sports series Prime Video has launched locally, and we can’t wait to show Australian and international audiences a more personal side to the Australian men’s cricket team,” said Tyler Bern, head of content, Prime Video Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. “The 2021/22 Test Season was full of highs and lows, and The Test Season Two will give an insider look at the transition of leadership with Pat Cummins as captain, the historic 24-year return to Pakistan, the tour of the crisis-torn Sri Lanka, and incredible achievements of Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, and ‘comeback king’ Usman Khawaja.”

Richard Ostroff, head of broadcast and production at Cricket Australia, said, “Season One of The Test on Prime Video took fans into the inner sanctum of the national team and enthralled fans across the country. We knew Season Two needed to live up to the standard of its predecessor whilst offering new insights for viewers. As a result of the terrific collaboration between our players and the production teams at CA, Whooshka, and Prime Video, I am thrilled to say Season Two does just that. Viewers will experience the unique world our elite Men’s cricketers inhabit, whilst seeing from the inside how they navigate significant challenges both on and off the field. It is compelling.”

Co-directors Sheldon Wynne and Adrian Brown added, “While Season One focussed on the rebuilding of the Australian men’s team in the eyes of the Australian public, this series takes viewers closer to the player experience and into their lives off the pitch. Whether it be Pat Cummins talking us through the challenges of juggling his test captaincy with his new fatherhood, or Usman Khawaja speaking at an Islamic college about his challenges growing up, the stories of the players are rare, and sometimes profound, insights into this new generation of cricketers. We feel audiences are going to get to know the Australian men’s Test team in a way they never have before.”

The Test Season Two follows the journey of the Australian men’s cricket team after the exit of captain Tim Paine and the subsequent departure of coach Justin Langer. Navigating their way through disruption and an uncertain world, the players pull back the curtain to the inner workings of the team. The series goes behind closed doors and follows the 2021/22 Test Season, where the players face off against archrivals England, play cricket in Pakistan for the first time in more than two decades, and duel with Sri Lanka in the middle of anti-government protests. This series offers a rare behind-the-scenes look into the lives of the Australian men’s cricket team, which includes captain Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland, David Warner, and Usman Khawaja.

The Test Season Two is produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with Cricket Australia and Whooshka Media. The producers are Mish Armstrong, Adrian Brown, and Richard Ostroff. The co-directors are Sheldon Wynne and Adrian Brown.

Friday January 13 on Prime Video.
