There was tennis and then there was daylight…
In the summer ratings battle last night Nine had it all their way with 1.32m metro viewers watching Novak Djokovic defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open Men’s Final. That included 568,000 watching in Melbourne and 357,000 in Sydney.
Nine drew a huge 47.4% share, with 1.05m watching the Presentation. But numbers don’t include those watching via Live 9Now streaming with VOZ numbers yet to commence from OzTAM on a daily basis.
However it was down on a marathon 2022 Final which finished at 1.20am with 1.61m metro viewers and 1.06m watching the Presentation, leading to a 54% share.
News bulletins notwithstanding, nothing else on television last night created waves.
The Bachelors grand finale settled on 356,000 viewers, rising to 372,000 for the “final decision.” Similarly, these don’t include BVOD viewing through 10Play. But it’s clear the season would draw a smaller crowd in the summer schedule.
You can check out more numbers for Sunday 29 January 2023 here.

Novak’s thigh had taping for the final. It wasn’t as noticeable as it was not below short length but was visible on slowmo replays
Funny how the thigh bandage comes off on the last day, hamstring must repaired itself, its all what the commentators talked about during the Open!
Apparently Novak said he did not practice between match days as not to injure it further.
