2022: In Memoriam

Here’s to the performers, creatives, executives, crew, commentators and administrative staff we lost in 2022.

I’ve always held the view that if someone has made an ongoing contribution to the television industry then the least I can do as editor of a TV blog is acknowledge their passing.

And that’s whether they work in reception at the network or are an A-list star.

Here’s to the performers, creatives, executives, crew, commentators and administrative staff we lost in 2022.

Thanks for the memories….

    1. … wow … I didn’t realise David had died … arguably his most famous moment was at a network program meeting chaired by Bob Campbell and attended by Steve Vizard and Andrew Knight to discuss Vizard’s falling ratings for Tonight Live … Bob asked for comments from each program director and, when it got to David, he just said to Vizard “the viewers hate you” … Steve was, probably for the first and only time in his life, rendered speechless and Bob hastily called a recess to the meeting … but it kinda made the point …

      1. … and he was also famous within the programming and management circles for turning up to Sydney network meetings in his Star Trek uniform. And who ever visited his Brisbane office could forget the dozens and dozens and dozens of Dinosaur models of every shape and size scattered everywhere (even a life-sized blow-up one in the corner).

  1. I’d like to acknowledge that British actor David Warner also passed away in July. He’s probably best known for his film work such as Titanic and Tron but he also had an extensive television career.

  2. To loose some many each year that you grew up watching, enjoying their creativity, laughing at their antics or just enjoying their company for just awhile is sad and often not appreciated until you look back and realise the contributions these people have made. This is the essence of the people who help to make entertainment what it is for us on TV. Unfortunately the music industry is the same each year, but I consider it a privilege to be able to watch/listen and enjoy until I “drop off the twig” myself. So I say “Thank You” and RIP.

          1. She also was featured heavily on the news and regularly made magazine front pages. Someone played her in The Royals and Simpsons when they travelled over to London (“The Regina Monologues” season 15, episode 4).

          2. Fair enough. Otherwise every world leader would have to be filed when they pass away.

      1. It depends on which Her Majesty SaxyBre84 is referring to because I’ve seen a lot of “Queens” on TV in 2022 who think the are “majestic HRH’s” 😂

  3. Such a long list of talent, despite not knowing all the names, there are so many I have watched over the years that have brought so much joy to our screens. Thank you for posting David.

  4. Hey David, An exhaustive listing, many names are familiar – sadness abounds. , you have missed out on Judith Durham, (you can remove this comment from the website if you like)

    1. Judith was really music industry not TV industry, hence I never filed her. I don’t list every person who was once a guest (it would be endless otherwise) it’s about employment. Olivia had acting roles in telemovies for example and Meat Loaf acted in many US shows.
