David Warner joins FOX Cricket

"We are thrilled that he will be joining our world-class FOX Cricket team,” CEO Patrick Delany said.

Foxtel Group Chief Executive Officer Patrick Delany announced today that David Warner has joined the FOX Cricket commentary team.

The news follows Foxtel signing a new deal with Cricket Australia through to 2030 – 31.

“David Warner has been one of our most exciting cricketers since he burst onto the international scene in 2009, and we are thrilled that he will be joining our world-class FOX Cricket team,” Delany said.

“A fiercely loyal and tough competitor on-field, he is an exceptional analyst of the game and will bring unique insights and perspective to our FOX Sports coverage through FOX Cricket across Foxtel and Kayo Sports.”

FOX Sports Executive Director Steve Crawley said: “We will never replace Shane Warne or Andrew Symonds on the FOX Cricket commentary team. But if you were given just one shot at picking a recruit from all of world cricket you’d pick David Warner.

“When he came out to bat you could double your audience. He made cricket exciting.

“And he’s the same in the twilight of his career as he was in the beginning – a swashbuckling, fearless individual.

“I’ve been around sports broadcasting a long time and believe David Warner is made for commentary the same he was made to open the batting. He’s most welcome onto our FOX team.”

FOX Cricket commentary team also includes Adam Gilchrist, Isa Guha, Michael Hussey, Allan Border, Mark Waugh, Kerry O’Keeffe, Brett Lee, Brendon Julian, Mel Jones, Mark Howard and Kath Loughnan, joined over the Test summer by West Indian Brian Lara, and South African Shaun Pollock, as guest analysts.

  1. Warner is the guy who cheated cricket and almost destroyed the Australian Teams standing with Australians. How could Foxtel make such a poor decision. I will turn off Foxtel cricket for any game he is commenting on. There are soooo many more appropriate and better choices out there. His lack of remorse is astounding. Prince Harry would welcome him as a friend.

  2. I’m another one who doesn’t like Warner but this year I just haven’t been able to watch Fox/Kayo coverage because no Shane Warne. Just so hard to get used to. I will most probably be okay by next year but gee I miss his commentary. Also miss the fun Andrew Symonds used to bring to the BBL coverage too. So sad.

  3. If David Warner joins Fox cricket I’m turning myself off—cannot stand his commentary. I feel that David Warner was previously a good player back in his teenage days but I feel that he doesn’t show some good integrity at all.

  4. Well…at least they are giving him a go at it unlike others. In reality it’s “just a game” like any other sport that gets analysed/dissected/praised/bagged and subjected to a post mortem. Don’t get me started on the inevitable distractions all over the screen for the statistical experts. (now all that’s going to bite) Oh! and the adds flogging cricket. Who knows he might just surprise the naysayers. And so I say “why not” everyone deserves a chance.

    1. We won’t be watching either, in fact I’ll turn my Kayo subscription off when the cricket season starts and turn it back on when the footy season starts. Why would you hire a person who was apparently involved in one of Australia’s biggest sporting scandals and won’t ‘own’ his involvement? I was so looking forward to his retirement and never seeing or hearing from him again.
