“I am just hearing news in fact that Lisa-Marie Presley has passed away.”

Angela Bishop was on air reporting on Lisa-Marie Presley's cardiac arrest when she got word of her death, and continued with no script.

10’s Entertainment Editor Angela Bishop was on 10 News Midday yesterday reporting on Lisa-Marie Presley’s cardiac arrest when she was forced to update viewers live.

“I am just hearing news in fact that Lisa-Marie Presley has passed away,” she said.

“I will get more detail on those as they come to hand. This is absolutely devastating news.”

With that, the seasoned Bishop drew upon her knowledge to expand on Presley’s life, without a script.

“This is a young girl who, from the moment she was born, was thrust into the limelight …She was born 9 months to the day after Elvis and her mum, Priscilla, were married. There was a press conference after she was born. Elvis named his plane the Lisa-Marie. She was very close to her father even though her parents split up when she was just 4 years old. He died when she was just 9. She was at the house, at Graceland, the night he died.”

Bishop interviewed Lisa-Marie when she toured Australia in 2014 describing her as ‘warm and brilliant’ and her experience and dignity shone through yesterday when she was forced to break the sad news on air.

  1. Thank you Angela Bishop for your extreme and utter professionalism in how you delivered the news to us all on the sudden and unexpected death of Lisa Marie Presley. You, and Sandra Sully, are both a credit to your professsion, and also to Ten News First. ie Sandra being the one to break the news to s all of the 2001 Terror Attacks. I was watching at the time, and had my tv on for around 24 hours non stop watching the shocking news unfolding live.

Angela, I think you and Sandra both deserve medals/awards for your grace, dignity, and professionalism. Thank you again.

  2. I thought i was hearing things when I heard the news. I first heard she had been taken to hospital. The next thing was, that she had died. Ever since September, quite a few well known people have died since the Queen, ONJ, Judith Durham, latterly, the former Pope, Robbie Coltrane, Kirstie Alley. Now this. Her death will join the ranks of ‘Where were you when you heard…..?’. To me, I think her features were a mixture of Elvis and Priscilla. But sometimes she was the image of Elvis, others, Priscilla. I was fascinated to hear her speaking voice. I feel for Priscilla, Danny Keogh, and 3 daughters. She is at peace, now back with her beloved father, Elvis and son, Benjamin. RIP Lisa Marie.

  3. Kudos to Angela for not unpacking Lisa Marie’s “baggage” related to various problems she encountered throughout her life. Most reports I watched especially some reporters overseas just had to speculate that it could have been drug related with her unsteadiness and slightly slurred speech at the awards ceremony. She had been at an emotional ceremony days earlier celebrating Elvis’s birthday (shown on YouTube) and various other events. Then the family history of heart attacks and any other bits of gossip and useless information they felt appropriate to fill the news bulletin with. I just can’t get my head around why they do this when a someone dies. What ever happened to respect especially when families are forced to publicly put out statements requesting privacy. The saying “they all come off of the woodwork when someone dies” is so appropriate. Now resting peacefully in the arms of her father and son.
