Returning: Silent Witness

New eps twice weekly, fast-tracked from the UK.

UK crime drama Silent Witness returns for its 26th season, fast-tracked from the UK.

There are five more cases for the team at the Lyell Centre to solve -each across double episodes.

Returning cast includes Emilia Fox, David Caves & Aki Omoshaybi.

Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) and the team of forensic pathologists and scientists at the Lyell Centre investigate intriguing new cases: a body falling from the top of a skyscraper, a people trafficking operation, a suspicious death at a festival, a train crash, and corrupt police officers. The cases that end up at the Lyell Centre are rarely straightforward. Initial suspicions are challenged as the evidence mounts and Nikki and the team must work harder than ever to uncover the truth.

Episodes will premiere on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00am from January 3 on BBC First, with double repeats Thursdays at 9.30pm (from Jan 5).

  1. Five 2 hours episodes on the BBC. BBC First is using the international distribution version, which have been split in half, and are showing them Tue and Wed morning. Not that it matters I will just watch or stream both parts later in the week when there is nothing on FTA.

    1. BBC First have done this for years so does the ABC. Had Foxtel since 1995 and they split it into two as well when series 1 started on one of the defunct channels with Amanda Burton as lead. Having lived in the UK BBC tends to do that. Probably like the US releasing all their shows in winter/fall which is obviously because people are “holdup” indoors. Record it and watch whenever, I do with everything so I can rewind, fast forward and pause so I get a good “squiz” at the bits I’m “trying” to process😂 (international distribution versions doesn’t bother me “them/they” over there can worry about that” too).

        1. The BBC has screened them over two consecutive nights, even S25 which was a 6x1hr story. The IMDb listing for S26 show The Penitent on 2nd and Familiar Faces on the 9th which is different. The ABC used to screen them split over a week, which was annoy but at other times has shown them a double episode or edited into a 2hr episode. If multiple versions have been made, the buyer can pick which one they want. There was a series where the ABC showed the short version of series premiere, then switched to the longer version after complaints. And 7 showed both the short and long versions of Lovejoy a few years ago.

  2. This is arguably one of the best serious “who done it” TV shows to be made. The term “Silent Witness” is from a book by American Chemist Paul L Kirk which means:- “wherever he steps, whatever he touches and whatever he leaves behind he leaves unconsciously”…”He” references the criminal. This is in fact in Forensic Science and to me that’s the best bits of working it out as an armchair sleuth.
