ABC pips Seven for second place on Sunday

MAFS tops Sunday while ABC's double bill of UK dramas upstages Seven and 10.

In only the second week of ratings, ABC has edged Seven out of second place on Sunday, thanks to UK dramas Vera & Death in Paradise.

ABC was second in both primary channel and network share.

Nine network won Sunday with 32.5% then ABC 21.7%, Seven 21.6%, 10 17.2% and SBS 7.0%.

Married at First Sight was #1 with an impressive 961,000 well ahead of Death in Paradise (569,000), Australian Survivor (488,000) and Australian Idol (441,000).

Later a new Vera led the way with 643,000 then 60 Minutes (479,000) but other offerings were just not in the race.

Seven News (787,000) defeated Nine News (661,000). A late edition of Nine News was 252,000.

ABC News drew 578,000 with Antiques Roadshow on 180,000.

The Sunday Project managed 242,000 / 179,000 then 10 News First (208,000 / 135,000) and War Zone: Bear Grylls Meets President Zelenskyy at just 184,000.

  1. I watched Death in Paradise and then Vera – commercial free, no interruptions, quality British fare, can’t go wrong with that.
Of those 3 reality shows, Survivor is the only one I’m interested in, the Married one is the same, year after year, more scripted cheating scandals and other things but hey, Channel 9 keeps winning the ratings by miles, so those producers are doing something right by some of the audience. Aussie Idol? Not interested, the eventual winner won’t be another Guy Sebastian, the winners of music talent shows in 2023 don’t go on to have lasting careers in the music industry. And the format looks tired to me.

  2. The ratings for British crime dramas like Vera and Death in Paradise are still very impressive. The ABC seems to be the perfect home for these types of shows.I don’t think they would rate nearly as well if they were on one of the commercial networks.

  3. Just a small thing. But surely total tv numbers should be referred to as views rather than saying certain number of million people have watched a certain show. We have no idea how many times people individually watch a certain episode?

  4. The Bear Grylls documentary with President Zelenskyy deserved more eyeballs. It was so poignant to hear him speak (and in English) and also heartbreaking to hear stories from the locals.

    1. This was an odd choice for 10 who are not noted for serious foreign affairs coverage, and on after Oz Survivor at that! I look forward to ‘4 Corners’ on ABC tonight.

  5. Seven won’t be too worried about the ABC getting over 55s on a Sunday Night. They will be worried that Idol isn’t doing better with <55s because that's ruining their entire week and there's nothing they can do about it while people are watching MAFS, Temptation Island, Love Island, MILF Manor et al.

    1. This over 55s didn’t watch the ABC…..but taped it for the 20 and 30 somethings in our house who happen to enjoy it. As for Idol what’s with the 55s again. Demographics or not don’t you realise TV shows appeal to the individual and their personal tastes. And finally there is plenty us 55s can do about it…simple….don’t watch it and give the other shows a miss too.
