Australian Idol contestant collapses

A young contestant was overcome after learning he had made it to Idol's Top 24.

There was high drama on the Australian Idol stage last night when a contestant was overcome and fainted after being told he had made the Top 24.

Singer and aspiring footballer Noah Cookson, 19, from Moranbah, Qld, was judged alongside fellow contestants Tully Wishart and Bobby Holmes.

“This one was really hard guys because you didn’t shine anywhere near as bright as we wanted you to,” judge Amy Shark said to the three.

“Noah I have such a soft spot for you man so it was tough.”

Kyle Sandilands added, “I wanted you all to go home, just quietly”.

But it was Tully who was sent home.

“Well done you’re both through,” Kyle said to Noah and Bobby, “Not what I wanted – but let’s see how you are next time, go celebrate fellas”.

However Noah Cookson suddenly passed out, leaving Harry Connick Jr. and crew to rush on stage as medics were called.

After being cleared by medics, Noah recovered backstage telling his mother he had made it to the next round.

It isn’t clear if it was pressure alone which had led to his collapse, but some contestants had remarked on having little sleep in their determination to make it through Idol rounds.

  1. Although no doubt Seven promoted it for their own advantage it’s done the contestant no harm either – indeed the only one I’ve seen articles written about.

  2. I don’t watch reality tv, but I saw the ad for this so many times! I think it was in bad taste to keep repeating it at all. Did they not think of his family? How distressing that would be for them to see him like that everytime there’s an ad!! I just think whoever edits the ads should do better.

  3. So dramatic. I feel that there’s no reason for the contestants to endure such a harsh and gruelling schedule. I am guessing probably to fit into the judges’ schedule and also budget considerations. It is interesting that some of the contestants were encouraged to come back next year. Judging by the ratings so far, we don’t even know if this show will return next year.

The best thing about this stage of Idol is I don’t have to look at that big gigantic Idol truck anymore. I don’t even know the purpose of the truck. Were the judges and contestants in the truck? Was the truck just driving around to promote the show? I have a feeling once the live shows commence, everything will be ‘quick and nasty’ with multiple eliminations leading up to the grand finale.
