rage goes retro

Rare Countdown, GTK, and Flashez footage screens this weekend on ABC.

rage turns to ABC archives this month, with rare music videos, interviews, footage, and full episodes of classic ABC music programs from the 1970s through to the early 2000s.

“We’re kicking it off this week and rewinding the clock five decades to the 1970s to unearth rare Countdown, GTK, and Flashez footage, some of which was lost or taped over, only to be recently uncovered and donated to the ABC by avid collectors,” the show tells fans.

“Look out for early performances and interviews from the likes of Kate Bush, Marcia Hines, and Dr. Hook.”

Saturday February 4 from 9am to 11am and again from 11:50pm on ABC.

  1. I’m a long time devoted rage follower. I’ve been watching for most of it’s existence. Before online playlists you had to call an info line which was quite expensive and the person spoke really slowly. The show used to be simulcast on Triple J between 1am until 6am. I especially liked early Sunday mornings when the ARIA top fifty replay would be shown.

  2. Rage has always been our go to after guests leave, party winding down or just can’t sleep. We ended up resorting to getting our retro fix from MTV channels on Foxtel in January but have to pay of course. Been taping Classic Countdown on the ABC to watch too.

  3. I know there’s a big fan base for Retro Month. If anyone has time to post, please share why it is in February now. It had always been in January. Even back in the early ’90s it was in January. Some viewers were probably wondering where it went.

I’d like to see some electronic music Vault shows with music from the early ’90s, featuring long lost music videos that haven’t aired on Rage since then. Including rare stuff that didn’t chart. Hidden treasures.

    1. Apparently not enough staff on board to program Retro nights over January, when many are on holidays.
I know lots of Retro month fans have been really disappointed about the move to Feb a few years ago.
Just not the same as in January…
But really looking forward to seeing those lost, rare Countdowns again..

      1. Thanks, Angela. I’ve been watching Rage since I can remember, which was 1989, even staying up for many, many weekend nights.

I vaguely recall conversing with an Angela some years ago about Rage on social media. If it was you, then thank you for your dedication. If not, then still thank you for your reply.

        1. Hey Solace2021.
I’ve been watching Rage from the very beginning, from the very first ep back in 1987. Not as much these days but love Retro month.
Same here…so many late nights spent watching, before the internet and Rage playlists existed, to see what music clips were coming up next.
No, not me but great to know there are still long term Rage fans out there..

  4. I love retro season on rage. Hopefully lots of Countdown this time around celebrating Molly’s 80th. It used to be January but is now February. Friday night / early Saturday morning rage are showing Triple J’s latest Hottest 100.
