Report: Seven not proceeding with new AFL show

Front Bar remains Seven's lead AFL show as plans for a new Sunday morning show are reportedly shelved.

Recent reports of a new AFL show on Sunday mornings on Seven have now been quashed by new press stories.

The Herald Sun, which first touted a possible show under the former Game Day banner, is now reporting plans have been quietly shelved, due to budgets.

That allows a free kick to rival broadcaster Nine with Sunday Footy Show.

However there is a theory that Seven are “holding fire” until the new broadcast rights deal begins. Seven’s deal from 2025 – 2031 is worth $4.5b.

Seven continues with The Front Bar as its lead AFL show, currently airing an “All Sports” edition ahead of the AFL season.

  1. There’s just tooo much AFL sports news! The majority of Sports News in Victoria especially on Seven is pretty much all about the AFL all year around. Frustrating to watch when you are not a fan of that sport! Those who complaining, go and get Foxtel that includes the FOX Footy Channel. There, I said it!

  2. Instead of a Sunday AFL talk show, 7 would air Morning Show: Highlights. I think it would cost a lot of money for 7 to commission a new afl show. Nevertheless, Channel 7 has a chockful of AFL shows including Front Bar, Armchair Experts and Sunday Session (only on 7+)

  3. Probably a wise move, as CH7 have no idea on what to do with AFL (just look at most of the CH7 commentators we have to put up with). Besides The Front Bar, past AFL show attempts have been dismal failures.

I think part of the problem is, being the right’s holder, they are too scared to offend the AFL, thus previous show attempts come across as wishy washy.
