Returning: Vera

Four new feature length mysteries with Brenda Blethyn coming to ABC.

Never mind the repeats, Brenda Blethyn returns as the unorthodox but brilliantly perceptive Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope, in four new feature length episodes set against the backdrop of the North East.

These began screening in the UK in January.

DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) returns, leading her diligent team of detectives as they investigate some complex and murderous crimes.

The four self-contained crime stories have once again been inspired by the best-selling novels and characters created by acclaimed crime writer Ann Cleeves.

Episode 1
DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) is called to a remote lighthouse where a body has been discovered lashed to a sailboat.

Immediately setting about her investigation, Vera soon discovers that the body is local council enforcement officer and experienced amateur sailor Frank Channing. A family man, with strong friendships, who was well respected at work, surely this really was just an accident? However, it’s not long before Vera discovers evidence suggesting foul play. Vera and her team piece together Frank’s final days and soon discover that his life wasn’t all plain sailing.

Sunday, 19 February 8.30pm on ABC.

  1. I’m referring to what ITV have scheduled in the UK, as listed on IMDb. The ABC has first run rights to Vera and Endeavour, 13th Street sold them to the ABC when Foxtel forced them out of business so they wouldn’t end up straight on Sleuth – revenge!. BBC First has first run rights to Unforgotten in this country, the ABC shows it 12 months later. ITV have started Vera on Saturdays, will likely follow with Endeavour at the end of the month. Unforgotten will get a top slot as S4 rated huge in the UK.

    1. Are you referring to Endeavour on Foxtel/Binge because My Foxtel app say it’s Serious 8 on 15th February but it’s already been on ABC. Series 9 finale wraps this month and only 3 episodes but not listed on the app or Foxtel website “Coming Soon” in February or March because they are always a month ahead with their releases.

  2. I was flicking between channels last night to see that one of the more recent eps was being repeated, so I guessed new episodes might not be too far away. Props to Aunty for getting these out so quickly too. Episode 1 aired on January 29 in the UK. Episode 2 does not air until this coming Saturday.
