Compass: Mar 26

Jeremy Fernandez profiles the 'Peacock Mormons' who comprise both former and current members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jeremy Fernandez presents an episode of Compass on Sunday around the ‘Peacock Mormons’ a group who comprise both former and current members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which recently marched in the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

Featuring in the story is Mormon missionary Brad Harker (pictured left, with Fernandez).

“I’m presenting a documentary about people who are queer and religious, or ex-religious. The focus of our story is the Peacock Mormons which is the group that’s marching in the parade and has suffered in previous years,” says Fernandez.

“They are campaigning for acceptance in the Church of the Latter Day Saints. They’re a fascinating group of people, and we’ve been interviewing them off and on since October, collecting their stories of how they have wrestled with religion, with family realising that they were queer, gay and lesbian.”

6:30pm Sunday 26 March on ABC
