Insight, the show to watch in private

"So many topics that Insight does are taboo, and they're not ones you necessarily want to watch with other people," says Kumi Taguchi.

Insight returned to SBS last week with host Kumi Taguchi, who recently explained to TV Tonight how the show works across its various platforms with subjects that are so spicy, some viewers prefer to watch in private, rather than co-viewing with family.

“We have probably three distinct audiences: our broadcast audience, our On Demand audience which is so fascinating because so many topics that Insight does are taboo, and they’re not ones you necessarily want to watch with other people,” she explained.

“There’s one coming up called Sexual Awakenings about people who have had midlife sexual awakenings. It’s quite out there and I think it will do really well in On Demand.

“Then we have our digital audience. YouTube and Facebook are really big audiences for us. One of the clips has had like 6 million views and it just keeps creeping up. It’s been there for about 18 months – 2 years now.

“So we really we do get that wonderful engagement and the fascinating thing is that we don’t tend to have many famous people or politicians on the show.

“The clips that do the best are your average person who’s dealing with life and the ups and downs of it, being incredibly honest about their experience of life. That resonates with our audience so much.”

Insight: Mid-Life Sexual Awakenings airs 8:30pm next Tuesday on SBS.
