Renewed: Mrs. Brown’s Boys

4 new episodes with Brendan O'Carroll as 'Mammy' get the green light from BBC.

Irish comedy Mrs. Brown’s Boys, created by Brendan O’Carroll, has been formally renewed for 4 new episodes.

A 4 part mini-series will film in coming months, to screen in the UK later this year.

Brendan O’Carroll said: “This mini-series was actually planned for 2021. Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post Covid shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen. Fasten your seatbelts and hold onto your hats!”

O’Carroll had previously teased 6 new episodes, but there could still be further specials.

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios and Steven Canny, Executive Producer said: “There’s no one quite like Mrs. Brown. An absolute force of outrageous wit and slapstick that has audiences hooked and belly laughing. It’s great to be back.”

Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy added: “BBC Comedy are pleased to announce that after a decade since the last full series of Mrs. Brown’s Boys, millions of viewers around the UK will be thrilled to hear that Brendan is bringing Agnes and the family back together for a brand-new mini-series of his award-winning show.”

Mrs. Brown’s Boys screens in Australia on Seven.

  1. It appears that all previous comments and observations have some level of validity as they represent individual experiences. It is important to understand that not everyone has the same sense of humour, but that good comedy is hard to create consistently. I also agree, as acknowledged by Brendan, that some of the jokes have been done too many times. I am a big fan and hope to see some fresh comedy approaches and have every belief that this will be done. 😎

  2. I was very skeptical of this show when it began and really didn’t bother with it for a long time. Eventually I gave it a go and it actually has quite a few decent laughs, it’s built up the characters enough that there are many in-jokes going on and also quite a few heartfelt moments too. The fact that Mrs Brown is a man in a wig is really incidental, you really just get drawn into the world of it all seeing him/her only as a woman. I think it has a place in the tv landscape, it is something a bit different. I find it far better than many raved about US sitcoms.

  3. How is this show on tv in this woke age dick emery would be rolling in his grave the show is a knock off dick emery was funny this is not and the only way mbb gets a laugh is saying the f word pathetic

  4. Really Renewed all I ask is Why. I know some people like it, and it is good for them. Maybe I am a bit old fashioned but I just do not find it funny at all, Just revisited some Colin Carpenter skits, to me they are the real deal. Bring back the Comedy Company I say instead of Mrs Browns Boys. I know one is the BBC and one is Australian.

  5. I’m so “buckin” excited that this series is returning and if you don’t like this series, I say to you “that’s nice”!

The way I see it, is that the 6 new episodes include the 4 part mini-series, plus the 2023 Christmas Special and the 2024 New Year’s Special?

  6. Reading some online forums in the UK, a lot of them are losing their minds that this got renewed

Personally I liked the show back in the early days but finding it a bit tiresome and repetitive in its joke and premise
