Insiders: April 16

On Sunday, the Voice to Parliament; Aged Care and a looming Budget.

On Sunday’s Insiders David Speers is joined by Jack Latimore, Karen Middleton and Clare Armstrong.

The Voice tops the agenda again this week after the Coalition’s spokesperson for Indigenous Australians Julian Leeser quit the frontbench so he could campaign in support of the Voice to Parliament. Leeser’s resignation was a blow to the Opposition Leader, but Peter Dutton quickly doubled down on his opposition to the Voice, blaming the Labor party for failing to explain its model and insisting that many Indigenous people did not support it being enshrined in the Constitution. He’s spent the last two days in Alice Springs drawing attention to the law-and-order issues in the central Australian town and calling on the government to send in the AFP to address the lawlessness.

David speaks with Country Liberal Senator for the Northern Territory Jacinta Nampijinpa Price live from Alice Springs.

We’ll also look at the aged care sector, with reports providers are struggling to meet new minimum standards.

With less than a month until the government’s second Budget, we’ll also look at the state of the Australian economy. Treasurer Jim Chalmers travelled to the United States this week for meetings with G20 finance ministers and central bank governors as the International Monetary Fund warned that turbulence was building in the global economy.

Plus Sammy J is back, Talking Pictures with host Mike Bowers for a look at the week’s best cartoons and photographs.

9am Sunday on ABC.
