Tracy Grimshaw rejects lifetime achivement awards

Tracy Grimshaw reportedly turns down big offers from both the Melbourne Press Club and Kennedy Awards.

The Australian this week reported Tracy Grimshaw has been offered but rejected both the Melbourne Press Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award (which went to Jon Faine) and the same gong at Sydney’s big awards night, the Kennedy Awards, to be held in August.

Grimshaw departed A Current Affair in November after 17 years at the helm of Nine’s nightly current affairs stalwart. But lifetime achievement awards are generally awarded to media personalities who have retired or near the end of their careers – but Grimshaw always indicated she would take a year off before reconsidering her next move.

As TV Tonight previously reported, Nine also kept her on their books, at the same time 10 let go of Carrie Bickmore. Leigh Sales, who also ended her 7:30 reign, also remained with ABC.

Grimshaw is likely to return to her interviewing base, but it’s unclear whether as stand-alone specials or as part of the 60 Minutes team.

  1. Agree with the comments about a one to one type interview show. Tracey would be perfect and this is something Australia is missing – the closest thing is This is Your Life, and going by the positive reviews on that, there is a market.

    1. Yes. Tracy Grimshaw is exactly the sort of host who could successfully helm a one-on-one interview show. She has the experience, connections, reputation, and tenacity to interview everyone from the Prime Minister to the latest social media star. I hope that Nine considers giving her such a show. If not that, stand-alone specials and/or segments on 60 Minutes would be fine too.

  2. I would love to see Tracey come back with one on one interviews ala Enough Rope. She is one of my favourite interviewers…
