Liz Ellis wins I’m a Celebrity 2023

Netball champ defeats boxer Harry Garside and Below Deck's Aesha Scott for 2023 title.

Netball champ Liz Ellis has been voted Queen of the (so called) Jungle, winning the 9th season of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of here on 10.

She wins a $100,000 prize for her chosen charity, Share the Dignity.

Liz was voted winner ahead of runner-up boxer Harry Garside, and third placed Aesha Scott (Below Deck).

“The thing that sticks with me is how much fun we had and how much we’ve all adored getting to know each other. There’s been real ups and downs … the first few days we all struggled but everyone got through it, ” Ellis said.

“A few years ago I made the decision to go grey. I really wanted people to see a woman with grey hair, or silver as I like to call it, on telly doing stuff and being strong. I thought I can’t let people down who looked at that and thought they might like to do it.”

The 10 series, moved to an April broadcast, drew the most ever votes across its 4 week season and performed well against stiff competition from Farmer Wants a Wife and Lego Master: Grand Masters.

The first week drew headlines when TV legend Kerri-Anne Kennerley refused to engage with camp trials, leading to a war of words with ex-MAFS participant Domenica Calarco and Kennerley quitting the series in tears.

Former Bachelor, ‘Honey Badger’ Nick Cummins was also bitten by a python.

But the season will also be memorable as the final for Dr. Chris Brown whose on-screen chemistry with co-host Julia Morris has been one of the show’s biggest assets.

Brown recently quit 10 to join Seven in July.

His replacement for 2024 is yet to be announced.

  1. Off topic, do celebrities pay themselves to fly to South Africa and back? I saw Debra Lawrence’s Instagram post and she flew with Qatar Airways via Doha. And then I saw Harry Garside flew with Qantas directly to Sydney.

  2. I was so happy Liz won – she’s a deadset legend – but I would have been happy for anyone from the cast to win (well, except maybe KAK).

The casting people outdid themselves this year. Julia and Chris weren’t overselling it when they said Australia fell in love with them all this year. We really did. It was such a positive and fun series this year.

    Well done to all.

  3. Any of them could have won, although I’m very happy that Liz won. She has been such a warm, entertaining and well-loved personality in camp – she really personifies how the camp felt like this year.

  4. Liz was the star of the show from the beginning. It was a given she would win. Congratulations Liz you are the best. This has been the best jungle series for me because everyone remained amicable and friendly (KAK aside). Julia and Chris were a good fit to compare the show but it is sad to see Dr Chris go and whatever Seven have in store for him I’m sure he will do justice to.

  5. Congratulations to Liz = a worthy winner.
Also a big Congrats to Harry, for the person he is. I can’t help wondering if all Australian men were more like Harry, what a beautiful world we would live in.

  6. Congratulations to Liz. Well deserved. Sad that Dr. Chris is leaving, but good luck to him with whatever he does at Channel 7. And I’ll be very interested to see who replaces him.

  7. It was so nice to see the emotion that Brown and Morris had last week as Brown bid farewell to IAC. I think their chemistry is going to be unrivalled and some big shoes for whomever steps up to fill.

    Good luck to them.

  8. So happy Liz won, she comes across as a very kind person. Sad to see Dr Chris go…..I have never been a Julia Morris fan but the two of them work together so very well.
