Seven tops Coronation, wins ratings week.

Seven led in metro viewing on Saturday night, capping off a winning week.

Seven network led Saturday night viewing of the Coronation, amid tough competition.

Breaking down the numbers given the different markets and coding is challenging, but Seven network won the night with a 31.7% share over ABC’s 25.2%, Nine’s 23.0% and 10’s 16.0%.

According to OzTAM Seven drew up to 739,000 metro viewers, but there were another 74,000 on 7TWO in Melbourne as AFL took precedence on the primary channel.

Nine drew 558,000 + 156,000 on 9GEM.

ABC pulled 462,000 for the Service and 225,000 on ABC News. 10 managed 276,000.

Seven won a week which proved challenging for 10 after it held off MasterChef plans, following the sudden death of Jock Zonfrillo.

    1. BBC always does royal events best because they get commentators who knows their stuff. I was so impressed when the parade all “stepped off” to one beat and one tune in sync. And that was a first with the help of an earpiece in the bass drummers ear.

  1. I watched the Coronation on 10, they had the least amount of onscreen clutter, just their faint watermark, and they had no Australian news presenters talking or filling in time. Once they started to add in commercials, I flicked to ABC for those few mins as it was the same feed as 10 had, just with poorer sound quality.

    1. Exactly what we did too. Can 7 & 9 please explain why they believe we need to know what time it is in London continuously? And, yes, we do know it’s ‘Live’.

    2. ABC had “poorer sound quality” than Channel 10.

Yes – I noticed a difference in sound as well.
I thought Channel 10’s was more fuller.
      More reverb????

Any sound experts available on why 2 stations linked to the same HD broadcast may differ?

  2. We think Michael Usher is the best when it comes to controlled ad lib coverage of events like the Coronation. Unflappable, humble and always with a twinkle in his eye. He takes charge with the baton and conducts any live broadcast like a symphony. No wonder 7’s broadcast was superior. Although, awkward timing crossing for an ad break 30 seconds before the Royal Family appeared on the balcony…

    1. I completely agree. Love watching anything Michael Usher presents. Love watching ‘The Latest’ when he hosts. Angela Cox is great too btw. He’s cool, calm and collected with an easy to listen to voice. Doesn’t ask stupid sensationist questions for clickbait (looking at you The Project) but still manages to ask the questions as a viewer I want to know the answers to in an informative and entertaining way.
I went through your Coronation watching guide David and picked 7 to watch it on just because Michael Usher was hosting and he was great. Did flick to ABC for a minute out of curiosity but the Royal bashing was next level appalling! Back to Michael for unbiased commentary of the arrivals. Thank you Michael.
Unfortunately 7 didn’t show it in HD in Melb after 7:30pm due to the stupid football so flicked over to 10. Was fine though as all stations took the BBC commentators by then for the actual coronation. Looked at ABC for a minute but the sound was muffled or something.

  3. Nine have to stop using Peter Overton for big event coverage. He is awkward and clunky. It is painful to watch and he doesn’t connect; often it does look like he is dialling it in. Also, Ally, it wasn’t a once in a lifetime event we were witnessing. The dude is 74 years old. The majority of Australians are going to witness another king coronation – hopefully as a republic though. TEN had the best coverage because it wasn’t theirs – just showed the BBC.

  4. Seven thoroughly deserved to win the Coronation coverage. They had the best Royal coverage hands down. Although David Koch was colourful he said very little of substance as usual. For me the stars of the coverage were Hugh Whitfield who deserves a pay rise or promotion, and Angela Rippon. Even more someone completely disinterested in the Royals, their commentary was entertaining and full of interesting insights about the Coronation and history associated.
