Recently-launched US drama Gotham Knights has been axed after just one season by The CW.
The series, picking up in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s murder, starred Oscar Morgan, Fallon Smythe, Tyler DiChiara, Misha Collins, Navia Robinson, Anna Lore and Aussie Rahart Adams.
Deadline suggests it had been a respectable ratings performer but, with the business model of The CW changing under its new ownership Nexstar, only a handful of scripted series could make the cut. Hollywood Reporter notes Nexstar is looking to reduce costs with smaller episode orders and other reductions as the company looks to make The CW profitable.
But there was better news for Superman & Lois renewed for a fourth season with 10 new episodes along with All American: Homecoming for a third season of 13 episodes.
There is some speculation budget cuts may affect cast sizes.
“We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network, in a statement. “These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
All titles screen across Foxtel / Binge.

That’s really too bad about Gotham Knights. I really liked that show. And Misha Collins was awesome on it.
Nexstar have to run The CW at a profit, and are making a half a dozen short season dramas, and buying cheap Australian, UK and Canadian shows heavily subsidised by their taxpayers like Barons, The Rising, Family Law and Sullivan’s Crossing. They are also making more competition shows. WB and CBS ran The CW at a loss, making money out of global distribution of their dramas targeted at 16-34s by WB Studios and CBS Studios.
Quite surprised by Superman & Lois being renewed after such a dull season three. It feels like they had a story for four episodes but dragged it out to 11.
I’ve been rewatching Smallville on Prime Video, and so much happens in one episode.
I’m not really surprised. I watched the pilot & was totally underwhelmed by the characters & the story. The fact that they chose to create a new son for Bruce Wayne when there were multiple Robins they could have used including his actual son Damien was a strange choice.
