Eureka to produce The Floor quiz show for FOX

Aussie producers making a mega-quiz show, created in the Netherlands, for US network.

From 100 people on the island to 100 people on The Floor….

US network FOX will adapt Dutch quiz show The Floor, produced by Australia’s Eureka Productions and John De Mol’s Talpa Productions.

The show sees 100 contestants face off in quiz duels on a giant LED floor divided into a hundred equal squares, each representing its own field of knowledge.

The first challenger, selected at random, must choose one of his or her neighbouring opponents to go head-to-head in an epic quiz duel in the opponent’s category.

The winner takes over the loser’s square, gaining valuable ground as they expand their territory, while the loser exits the game. The winner must then choose – do they continue on and attempt to secure another square? Or do they let The Floor choose a new challenger?

The last contestant standing who gains full control over The Floor takes home a life-changing $250,000 cash prize.

Deadline reports the series stared in the Netherlands on RTL4 and is being remade in France and Germany and was optioned in the UK.

Exec producers are John De Mol, Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Anthony Carbone, Mark van Achterberg, Eden Gaha and Wes Dening.

  1. This does look rather dull as I believe one game plays out over an entire series rather than giving you a conclusion every episode – the format is essentially 99 fairly mundane head to head quizzes. Probably better to scale it down to a 4×4 or even 3×3 floor and have a winner every episode.

  2. The trouble with all these shows being produced by the same company is that they all follow the same drawn out process that viewers have tired of. Overall the concept is fine, but please give it to us in a tight, fast paced episode that doesn’t run for more than an hour.

  3. It sounds like an interesting enough concept, but so did the box or the cube or whatever that show with Andy Lee was that obviously didn’t have enough legs to survive.
