Friday Flashback: Warnie (the chat show)

In 2010 Shane Warne tried his hand at hosting on Nine... but will it be recreated by Nine's own drama?

Before there was Warnie the miniseries, there was Warnie, the very last variety show GTV9 ever produced at its now demolished Richmond studios.

The famed cricketer tried his hand at presenting back in 2010. Joined by Alicia Loxley (nee Gorey), his series interviewed Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Sting, Dannii Minogue, James Packer, Michael Parkinson, Russell Crowe and Richie Benaud.

But Nine cancelled the show before the end of its run.

So does Nine’s Warnie miniseres also revisit his hosting of  Warnie?

“No it isn’t touched on,” star Alex Williams told TV Tonight.

“There’s obviously a lot that we do touch. It flips all over the place, which is great and a good sense of nostalgia for everyone. But we couldn’t get to everything. We didn’t get to Warnie, we didn’t get to I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

“There’s quite a few things that didn’t make it.”

Williams confirmed the series does also not recreate Warne’s death in Thailand in March 2022.

Warnie the miniseeries screens 7pm Sunday and 7:30pm Monday on Nine.
