Nine shuns Shannon Noll in State of Origin broadcast

Viewers missed out on a Shannon Noll performance because he sang about take-away chicken.

Singer Shannon Noll was cut from Nine’s State of Origin broadcast last night when he was reduced to singing jingles for KFC.

Courier Mail reports viewers around the country hoping to hear classics like ‘What About Me?’, ‘Shine’, and ‘Drive’ were “no doubt left disappointed.”

FOX Sports reported his first song had fans stunned. Noll opened his set with the jingle used by Origin sponsors KFC in their ‘Fried Night Footy’ advertisements.

The song, called the Fried Night Footy Anthem, was written before this season by Noll and DZ Deathrays, but it left a sour taste in the mouths of some fans at Suncorp.

It led to tweets from fans, with viewers irate at the musical choice. Even Wide World of Sports reported fans complaining, “Shannon Noll singing a KFC ad at Origin has to be as low as things could ever get”.

Nine cutting him from the broadcast comes despite earlier promotion of an appearance.
