Seven edges out Nine for Thursday win

All entertainment shows land under 500,000 in overnight data.

Thursday proved to be a close battle between Seven and Nine, with the former taking victory by just 1% in network share.

All entertainment shows sat under the 500,000 mark with Seven shows ahead of the pack.

The Chase topped entertainment at 490,000 / 294,000.

An extended Home & Away was 482,000 / 430,000 from 7pm then 7:30 (465,000), MasterChef Australia (409,000), Miriam & Alan: Lost on Scotland & Beyond (267,000) and Inside Sydney Airport (162,000).

Later The Front Bar was 368,000 then Britain’s Got Talent (226,000), Grand Designs: NZ (198,000) Law & Order: SVU (156,000) and Putin & the West (106,000).

Women’s State of Origin drew 345,000 across the Nine network.

Seven network won Thursday with 30.1% then Nine 29.1%, 10 16.4%, ABC 15.1% and SBS 9.2%.

Seven News was #1 at 912,000 / 897,000.

Nine News (767,000 / 748,000) was best for Nine. A Current Affair was 573,000 then Hot Seat (398,000 / 258,000). In select cities were RBT (210,000) and Paramedics (141,000).

The Project drew 298,000 / 204,000 for 10. 10 News First was 229,000 / 165,000.

ABC News was 585,000. The Drum (148,000) and One Plus One: The Elders (108,000) followed.

On SBS it was SBS World News (156,000 / 106,000), Mastermind (79,000) and Normal People (52,000).

Peppa Pig led multichannels at 139,000.

The Morning Show: 128,000 / 70,000
Today Extra: 116,000 / 69,000

In Total TV numbers last Thursday were:

Alone Australia: 514,000
MasterChef Australia: 704,000
Home & Away: 901,000
Grand Designs: NZ: 328,000
Britain’s Got Talent: 318,000

  1. So nine winning Wednesday night by 30+% is a bridge too far for seven for the weekly win. Low 20s win for 9 with SOO, seven probably could have nabbed the week.

  2. 7 must be thankful for The Chase, rating higher than most shows after 7pm and providing a great lead-in to 7News, and providing that 1% that they needed for a win (probably?).

  3. The Millionaire Hot Seat format seems to be stretched out for an hour and at times seems tediously filled with contestants’ life stories and not enough questions. They should go back to two half hour shows back to back and less boring chit chat with more questions that might improve ratings.

    1. But if they did that (reduce the life stories), Charlie Pickering would need to find something else to fill the void for his show……
