Airdate: John Farnham: Finding The Voice

Must-see doco on an Australian music legend is coming to Seven.

Seven is set to screen newly-released music documentary John Farnham: Finding The Voice in two week’s time.

This one will rate through the roof. I’d hate to be up against it on another network!

John Farnham: Finding The Voice celebrates Australia’s greatest singer and his journey from the suburbs of Melbourne to 1960s pop fame, through life’s highs and lows, ultimately to record-breaking success as “Australia’s Voice”.

This first authorised biopic features John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Jimmy Barnes, Celine Dion, Robbie Williams, Daryl Braithwaite, Richard Marx, Glenn Wheatley, Gaynor Wheatley, David Hirschfelder, James Farnham, Robert Farnham, Jill Farnham, Paul Dainty and more, as it tracks the personal and public journey that has made Farnham Australia’s greatest and most beloved musical artist, with 1986’s Whispering Jack still the highest-selling Australian album of all time.

Since its cinema release on 18 May, the critically acclaimed film has become the highest Australian grossing feature length documentary of all-time and the fourth biggest grossing feature length documentary in Australia ever.

Critics have described the powerful documentary as “must-see”, “enthralling”, and “inspiring”, a story with “laughter, tears, love and rock’n’roll” and a great tribute to Farnham’s “talent, tenacity and his gift for making and keeping friends”.

Sony Pictures Releasing International presents and Screen Australia presents, in association with Screen NSW, in association with VIC Screen, a Beyond Oz (a Banijay company) production in association with Blink TV – John Farnham: Finding The Voice – from Executive Producers Mikael Borglund, Martin Fabinyi and Paul Clarke, Director Poppy Stockell and Writers Poppy Stockell and Paul Clarke.

7.30pm Monday, 24 July on Seven.

  1. This only finished its run at the movies a couple of weeks ago!

With this tiny window, many will never go to the movies to see an Australian documentary ever again.

    1. Released May 18, a quick window to screen yes. The film is the biggest theatrical Australian music documentary (excl. Imax), exceeding $2.57 million in its second weekend. Seven were part-funders so their right to schedule as desired. SVODs will follow.

      1. Limbo (starring Simon Baker) also screened in cinemas very recently, and it aired on the ABC last night.

I wish Aussie movies and documentaries are screened in cinemas for a longer period, to help the industry, before screening on our television screens.

But good to see our tv embracing some Aussie productions nonetheless.

        1. @jimbo k = films/doco’s only screen in cinemas as long as there is demand and an audience, if Aussie’s don’t support Aussie content at the cinemas, the cinemas cannot afford to run sessions with only a handful of patrons, or empty cinemas.

  2. … I’ll have to check it out to see if I’m in it … I handed John the mop and bucket for his first television performance of Sadie on SAS10’s “In Time” in 1967 …

  3. Caught this early at the movies. Was a good crowd there and a great doco. I got a bit teary. Really good story and a highly recommended watch. Waiting to be able to buy a copy.
