Insiders: July 16

Guest: Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

This Sunday on Insiders the guest is the Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

David Speers is joined by Shane Wright, Samantha Maiden and Katina Curtis.

The top story is the government’s decision not to extend Philip Lowe’s term as Reserve Bank Governor. The Treasurer and Prime Minister announced that the RBA’s deputy governor Michele Bullock will become the first female to lead our central bank from September.

We’ll analyse the reasons Lowe was dumped and look at what Bullock’s appointment means for the future of the RBA and for the bank’s approach to inflation and interest rates.

Also on the agenda – the Prime Minister’s trip to the NATO summit in Lithuania and his announcement that Australia will donate more Bushmasters to Ukraine as pressure builds on Kyiv to make progress in their summer offensive.

The panel also discuss the mounting pressure on Scott Morrison to leave parliament in the wake of last week’s Robodebt Royal Commission as victims of the unlawful scheme consider a second-class action against the Commonwealth.

All that and plenty more, including Mike Bowers Talking Pictures with author and journalist Antoinette Lattouf.

9am on ABC and ABC News.
